Today our Yes Crew was out in force in Eagleby.

Fantastic response from locals this morning.

We’ll be out over the next few weeks, give us a wave or a honk or let me know if you want to join in.

Stay Deadly

On the weekend our QILN Patrons, Chairperson, Secretary, Co-Founder, Executive Members and General Members were all standing up and supporting First Nations policy at the Queensland Labor State Conference Mackay 2023.

We celebrated our Co-Founder and Executive Member Aunty Isabel Tarrago being awarded Life Membership.

We heard from Minister Enoch about her commitment and enthusiasm as the first Indigenous person to be Minister for Treaty, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships.

We also saw our Chairperson and General Member Donisha Duff Move and Second Voice and Treaty Resolutions, speaking openly about their own family and personal stories and showing the QILN’s support for both Treaty and Voice.

Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up.
This is the theme of this year’s NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week. Some organisations and governments can use this week as merely a media opportunity to seem inclusive on Indigenous issues. NAIDOC Week is not just a theme; it is a call to action for all of our mob and genuine allies, wherever you’re from, whoever you are. We all know the fight for equality is still not over. We are still over-represented in the justice system. Our young ones are still able to be put in prison at 10, 11, 12 and 13 years of age and they still continue to be over represented in the juvenile justice and child protection systems. Our men and women are still dying in custody. We are still dying 10 years before non-Indigenous people. As an organisation we campaigned for both the current Federal and State Labor governments. Now we need all levels of government to Get Up, Stand Up and Show Up for us on our issues.

On behalf of the Queensland Indigenous Labor Network Committee we want to acknowledge and pay our respects to First Nations Women past and present who have been the matriarchs and backbone of this country on International Women’s Day. We honour our grannies, mothers, sisters, aunts and daughters who have been responsible for passing on women’s lore and knowledge from one generation to the next and fighting for human rights, justice and equality. We also acknowledge that there is still unfinished business in terms of achieving equal status and full inclusion with our non-Indigenous sisters. We pay tribute to First Nations Women’s personal and collective experiences and stories of struggle, survival, resilience and humanity on this day. However, we long for the day when our children and women are no longer overrepresented in the criminal justice system, our children are no longer arbitrarily removed by the State from our care and we have parity in health and life expectancy. Until such time we feel it is apt to commemorate International Women’s Day rather than celebrate IWD.
