BEAR RESCUE: PART 1
Two Perth Zoo senior zookeepers, Holly and Rob, were volunteering overseas when news of the BIGGEST bile bear farm closure in Laos broke.

27 beautiful young moon bears were trapped in tiny cages, having spent their lives in the most cruel, unimaginable conditions ๐Ÿ’”

Holly and Rob joined our conservation partner Free the Bears to undertake the huge rescue mission to bring these bears to safety.

Thankfully, all 27 bears are now settling in at the sanctuary and experiencing all the simple pleasures in life that they never had before.

Theyโ€™re tasting delicious fruits and vegetables, getting to interact with other bears, and even splashing in water for the first time๐Ÿ’š

Stay tuned for more special behind-the-scenes content from the rescue mission thanks to Holly and Rob.

Free the Bears, we are in absolute awe of everything you do. Thank you for saving these bears ๐Ÿ’š

Howโ€™s this for good news on World Environment Day ๐ŸŽ‰

Weโ€™ve hit a milestone - more than 6,000 Zoo-born animals have officially been released into the wild!

Behind-the-scenes, Perth Zoo Science staff pour hours of expertise and passion into breeding programs for endangered and critically endangered species.

And this crucial work happens around the clock! The team successfully match breeding pairs and support offspring through every stage of development until they are prepared for a wild release.

Now, more than 6,000 animals across ten different species have been bred at the Zoo and released into wild habitat.

Every individual animal born at the Zoo for release makes a huge impact on the future of the species. We are SO proud to hit this milestone ๐Ÿพ

This incredible work is done in collaboration with our friends at Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia, as well as countless other partners and local organisations. Saving wildlife is a team effort!

If you're a lion lover, here's how to tell our big cats apart๐Ÿฆ

Jelani is the only male and easy to spot with his impressive mane. He's the king of the pride!

Uzuri has a rounder face and a rich golden-brown coat that helps her stand out.

Makeba has a longer face and is lighter in colour, with small notches in her right ear if you look closely ๐Ÿ‘€
