Congrats to every one for an amazing Telethon7 Perth weekend!

Over $100 million raised!

Every dollar raised for Telethon helps make life better for WA kids and their families - providing care, support and hope during some of their toughest times.

Thank you to Roger Cook, on behalf of every Western Australian, for contributing a record $18 million to Telethon this year - the biggest WA Government donation ever to help support medical research and charities, which plays a massive role in ensuring a better and brighter future for our youngest West Aussies.

Thornlie represent! 🧡 Telethon 2026

Meet Brendan, a Thornlie local who generously volunteers his time every year to help make Telethon a success

Telethon is on Channel 7 until 8.30 tonight, raising much-needed funds to support sick and vulnerable children across WA.

If you can spare a few dollars, why not phone in a donation? You never know, you might find yourself chatting to a celebrity or even Brendan, who, in our eyes, is every bit a star! ⭐

We know times are tough for many families, so every contribution, big or small, is appreciated. It's a wonderful cause that makes a real difference to WA kids and their families.

Great to doorknock this week with the info on our promised $150,000 upgrade of Astinal / Prescott Park in Gosnells - as part of our record high $21 million local Infrastructure Spend.

This is another project where the WA Govt provides 100% of the funding to City of Gosnells (and we are funding 7 parks like this)

Astinal / Prescott is a great park but lacking in infrastructure and the current feedback supports a path on Astinal Drive to the park, adding seating, Basketball half court & Infinity Hoop, solar lighting and BBQ but pls email Council and I with your ideas ASAP.

Terry Healy & the WA Govt are funding (as promised) seven Great Big Park developments and Four of these $150K builds are occurring in this financial year.

The Council have confirmed in previous years the Astinal playground does not need replacing so each of these spends are to to ADD to the existing Park infrastructure) at
- William Lane Park, Gosnells
- Astinal/Prescott Park, Gosnells
- Leatherwood Park, Huntingdale
- Ambience Park, Southern River
- Fenced Dog Park at Sutherlands

We have finished the Works at Aldenham and the extra carparks on Shreeve rd for the Canning Vale Bracadale Dog Park)

Its three years from the next election. I dont take my position for granted and I always ensure we are funding now the infrastructure our local area needs.
We all want the Pool but we cant convince the Council to get started- even though they have the funds we promised as part of their $35 million.

But I wont stop funding and fighting for the other projects we need and have promised as Gosnells Council will again this year receive a record high level of Infrastructure funding from the WA Govt.

AN OUTDOOR SPLASH PAD NEXT TO THE YOUTH PLAZA

Now that the Council has decided not to build a $35 million Indoor Pool now with the $35 million funds available now (and as a result of the Council decision) the Indoor Pool will now not go ahead at all.

We will not walk away from the Gosnells and Southern River community and we will use the WA Govt $2 million funds for a new Outdoor Splash Pad next to the Youth Plaza – this allows the Mayor’s Promise of an Aquatic Facility to be delivered.

The $2 million was a fair share of funding and was to get Stage 1 (Indoor Pool) advanced within a year and my offer has always been to advocate for more funds for the Outdoor Pool (Stage 2) and Basketball Courts (Stage 3). As the Council timeline extends now beyond 2029 the funds will now be spent on the Outdoor Splash pad next to the Youth Plaza.

The Maylands Splash Pad is the Preferred model with a $1.5 million build and $100,000/year in operating costs over 5 years - so at least our community gets something.

As residents know, Armadale Council received $1 million from the WA Govt for their $26 million Pool recently. This WA Govt $2 million was for the Indoor Pool and there was more to come for Stage 2 (Outdoor pool) and Stage 3 (Basketball court). This $2 million was also higher than the WA Govt contribution for the Thornlie Pool 30 years ago. The WA Govt also recently gave $1.5 million for the Langford Indoor Netball Court.

In the meantime, lets get the $2 million Outdoor Splash Pad designed and built for Summer!

But it is worth seeing what Council advanced for the Pool. At the 14/7/26 OCM a Gosnells Cr stated that at least $250,000 has been spent on the 2024 "Retail Needs Report" (for physio / café opportunities) as well as travel to the eastern states to view Pools and the purchase of promotional Council Ipads / "video in a box" and an AI video of a pool.

That $250k should have been spent on the actual building costs and detailed design of a Pool.

The Council has suggested spending another $250,000 on another feasibility report. Given the above, I can not support another feasibility study.

We also now know there is no amount that my Liberal opponents on Council will accept for the Indoor Pool, my opponents will just keep saying its not enough.

The WA Govt $2 million was available to be spent now on the Council Indoor Pool but as the Council timeline extends now beyond 2029 the funds will now be spent on the Outdoor Splash Pad next to the Youth Plaza.

I have a lot of time for Mayor Lynes, however her decision (as a person who nominated for the Liberals for Southern River in 2021) to do Liberal campaign videos congratulating the Liberals 2025 candidate for $0 for the Indoor Pool shows $ was never the issue. I acknowledge Mayor Lynes has now quit the Liberals but the damage is done and their position won’t change in the future.

I will admit I was naive and trusted the Council would build the Indoor Pool as promised but I will not trust the Liberals on Council again over the Indoor Pool.

In the meantime, lets get the $2 million Outdoor Splash Pad designed and built for Summer!

The Pool is Dead!

COUNCIL HAS DECIDED NOT TO BUILD THE INDOOR POOL

Unfortunately I inform my constituents that the Gosnells Council have decided to scrap the Indoor Pool at Sutherlands Park.

The Council has decided not to build a $35 million Indoor Pool now with the $35 million funds available now (and as a result of the Council decision) the Indoor Pool will now not go ahead at all.

The Council has discussed this project for over 10 years and if it is not done now with the available $35 million – it will never be done.

We will not walk away from the Gosnells and Southern River community and we will use the WA Govt $2 million funds for a new Outdoor Splash Pad next to the Youth Plaza – this allows the Mayor’s Promise of an Aquatic Facility to be delivered.

The Council was set a deadline – one year from the March 2025 WA election (when all of the available $35 million of funds were confirmed), and Council requested an extension of three months – but now the Council still proposes more delays.

We also now know there is no amount that my Liberal opponents on Council will accept for the Indoor Pool, my opponents will just keep saying its not enough.

The $2 million was -a fair share of funding and was to get Stage 1 (Indoor Pool) advanced within a year and my offer has always been to advocate for more funds for the Outdoor Pool (Stage 2) and Basketball Courts (Stage 3). The WA Govt $2 million is available to be spent now on the Council Indoor Pool but as the Council timeline extends now beyond 2029 the funds will now be spent on the Outdoor Splash pad next to the Youth Plaza.

This was never about trying to get more State or Federal funds – the Council asked Matt Keogh for $10 million for Sutherlands Park and he delivered on this. That Thriving Suburbs grant will be spent on two new buildings at Sutherland Park.

The same Liberal Crs also endorsed the 2019 Federal Liberals allocating the $20 million for this Indoor Pool to South Perth Council and opposed Matt Keoghs $10 million Thriving Suburbs for Sutherland Park.

I will admit I was naive and trusted the Council would build the Indoor Pool as promised but I will not trust the Liberals on Council again over the Indoor Pool.

The $35 million (a version of what Armadale Pool built) would have been a World class facility and also simple in that the Indoor Pool was four walls, three pools and facilities, but the Council will now not do this at all.

The Council will now need to hear from residents how they want to have the $33 million returned to ratepayers in Canning Vale, Gosnells, Huntingdale and Southern River. As the Indoor Pool is now not going to proceed, and the funds were collected from those four Suburbs – it is fair the Council advise how they will refund those amounts to ratepayers (or a discount on their rates).

In the meantime, lets get the $2 million Outdoor Splash Pad designed and built for Summer!

I want to thank everyone who came to Hoedown at Harmony this evening and a huge shout out to all the staff involved. Very proud to support the Council with a $91,000 Lotterywest Grant for this and more FREE events.

Thank you to everyone for their patience with the weather.
I also want to apologise to everyone who attended and was in line for over an hour for the rides.

These events take a lot of co ordination and Gosnells staff do an incredible job, I do accept the feedback that this event has grown over time and if we're going to do the free rides then we probably need to have more of them.

Since 2024 we have increased the Lotterywest grant to Gosnells for these events by 30% but I take on board that we should look at increasing the grant and budget next year to help Council allocate more free rides.

As always pls email me at [email protected] and also
the Council with your feedback.

Gosnells Council has received over $21 million in infrastructure and grants recently and this $91K is in addition to that.

Again, I thank all of the Gosnells Council staff and Elected Members with Lotterywest & Perth Airport who put so much effort into these events. The WA Govt and I fund City of Gosnells so you and your family can enjoy these events for free.

(We are also making 4 local Outdoor Movie Nights FREE in Nov 2026 – more info on my FB and the Council FB page soon)

My family and I had an incredible time at Amanda's Garden Fete in Southern River today with Barry & Lorraine Young, Hazel McGinty and the incredible army of amazing volunteers that make this event possible.

My office was happy to help print the FREE Kids Scavenger Hunt and my kids had a ball doing that as well as icecream, pop corn and other amazing things to buy (and we got some vegie seedlings for the kids to plant at home)

Thanks also to the Vic Park Lions for the delicious hot dogs (our Lions Club of Gosnells are getting ready for the Train Rides at the FREE Hoedown event in Maddington tonight (and happy to present the City of Gosnells Programs and Events another $91K Lotterywest grant to help make that event free too)

The Amanda’s Garden Fete is also on tomorrow Sun 11 October 2026 from 10am-4.30pm (Cnr Margaret & Matison st in Southern River)
