This St George Flood Marker stands at a towering 14 metres high ๐ฒ
When the Balonne River flood marker was installed in St George in 2011, no one couldโve imagined floodwaters would reach the top the very next year.
The highest flood level recorded on the marker is at 13.95 metres from the 2012 floods, when almost 2,000 residents were evacuated.
Fortunately, the markerโs height hasnโt needed to be extended, but they have had to add one additional date โ 2020.
The marker serves both as public historical documentation and a visual reminder of the flood risk in Balonne.
๐ Next time youโre in St George, you can find the marker on the Balonne River near the Visitor Information Centre.

Hey NSW Reconstruction Authority , here are some tips to Get Ready for tonightโs Origin clash!
1. Know your risk
Queenslanders are a fearsome lot; Get Ready to lose.
2. Make a plan
Figure out a quick and safe exit when weโre making our victory laps.
3. Pack a kit
Essentials include tissues (for the tears), aloe vera (for the burns), and maybe a Queensland jersey - youโll want to back a winning team eventually.
Stay safe out there. Weโll try not to celebrate too hard ๐๐ช

Let's step back in time to the 1974 floods in Rockhampton.
Flooding in Rocky this year reminded all of us of the town's flood history. These incredible photos were shared by a local resident, who was caught in those floods over 50 years ago.
"The only way we could get out was on our cars on flat wagons on the train. They used a forklift to put them on. Very exciting for us teenagers at the time. I still remember all the hyacinth floating down the river out to sea."
What memories do you have of the '74 Rocky floods?

Over 640 properties visited. Hundreds of conversations. One dedicated team.
Last week our officers hit the road across north and Far North Queensland, checking on properties and speaking with residents impacted by last yearโs floods.
We saw incredible resilience, but we also heard about challenges like accessing trades for repairs and issues with drainage.
Reconstruction Monitoring is more than just a visit though, itโs about making sure the voices of affected communities are heard. The insights we gather help deliver better recovery outcomes so no one gets left behind.
Thank you to the residents of Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Hinchinbrook and Townsville we spoke with for your time and valuable feedback.
Weโll keep working side by side with councils and communities to make sure Queenslanders get the help they need to recover and rebuild ๐ช
