To our friends at Langhorne Creek, Woodchester, Milang, Clayton Bay and parts of Willyaroo 😁
The Murraylands Fire Danger Season will start on the 1st of November.

This means no burning off after this date without a permit.

The Murraylands Fire district is any property to the right of the thick red line on the below map.

The Mount Lofty Ranges Fire district is to the left of the line, and that start date is yet to be announced.

Please clean up around your property before it is too late 🙏

Your green waste becomes local mulch – eventually

Green waste + machinery + labour + time + transport = mulch
Our region’s green waste that comes through the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA) Waste and Recycling Depots is a perfect example of the circular economy. A waste product that used to end up in landfill is now processed and converted into useful mulch.

If you're dropping off a load of green waste, why not fill up the empty trailer by buying some local mulch - your garden will thank you for it. Please remember to bring a suitable tarp to completely cover the mulch load; a tarp must be shown to the gatehouse attendant to buy mulch.

Just before 6pm last night, crews from Strathalbyn were responded to assist with the house fire at Murray Bridge.

The fire was so hot that the house next door was scorched. 😳

Access to the seat of the fire was hampered by a ‘bit of gear’ in the yard. 🙄

MFS used their truck mounted monitor (big nozzle on the back of their truck) to pour water on.

Best results a were achieved with BA operators working with hoses.
Back to Strath at 1100pm for cleaning and recommissioning equipment 😁

It’s that time of the year again.

Please do the little things to reduce the fuel load and help make everyone’s job a little easier.

🔺Trim the trees at the driveway so we can get in.
🔺Mow or spray the long grass to reduce the fuel load - this makes a BIG difference.
🔺Clean up any fallen branches.
🔺Do any burning off sooner rather than later (please check your local council regulations)
🔺Make sure we can read your roadside address number.

Nice lawn ornament!

Today we were tasked with doing a helicopter landing at a private residence on Marchant Rd for SAAS.

Our main task is to make the area safe for the helicopter.
No pedestrians, animals, loose objects, and identifying any powerlines.

Our mates from Barker SES also came to assist.

A Lithium ion battery fire in an enclosed space, caused a HAZMAT incident today.

The mobile Lifeblood (formerly Red Cross Blood Service) trailer was taking blood donations today when a small battery caught fire.

Staff and donors took decisive action, and threw the battery powered fan outside.

Crews from Strath were supported by Woodchester and Mount Barker as a precaution.
Thankfully Barker and Woody were not needed and were stop-called before they arrived.

The offending battery was placed in a water bottle to keep it submerged and the temperature down.

The PPV fan and Multi-RAE were also used to ensure the air was safe.

One person was transported to hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.
Lithium ion batteries are now a leading cause of fires.

Do me a favour, go for a walk around your house, and count how many rechargeable devices you have.
Phones, laptops, hand-held games, kitchen gadgets etc.
THEY ARE EVERYWHERE 😬

Good morning,
Last night we held our AGM.
As it was a non-election year, it was a fairly quick meeting with no accusations of bribery or voter fraud. 🤣

Undoubtedly the two highlights were the brigade photo and the handing over of the Golden Spigot award to Branden. 🏆

Despite being on light duties, Branden regularly helps out with comms in the radio room, recommissions trucks, and runs the cadet program for Strath and Milang.

Congratulations to Branden, and thanks to Uschi Watts for ‘herding the cats’ and taking the brigade photo again. 😁

Big news! 😳
The Strathalbyn CFS will get a new truck 🙏🏻

Sometime in the next 12-18 months, we hope to receive a brand new HAZMAT Urban Rural Pumper.
This appliance will help us better serve the rapidly growing community of Strathalbyn and the surrounding district.
We wait with breathless anticipation 🤤

At 1100 pm last night, crews were responded to a house fire at Angus Plains.

On arrival, we found it well involved and upgraded to second alarm to get more BA operators and an extra Bulk Water Carrier.

Crews from Strath, Langhorne Creek, Milang, Woodchester, and the Maccy Bulk Water Carrier all did their bit.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but unfortunately the damage had already been done and we were unable to save much of the structure or contents.

At the request of the owner, we have not posted any photos of the property.
