Strathfield Council Strathfield Council is a local government area in Sydney's Inner West. Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West.

The area of the Council comprises approximately 14.1 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 40,000. Strathfield Council has seven councillors, including the Mayor who is elected by the Councillors. The CEO is appointed by the Council to manage the administration of the Council and in turn, the CEO appoints staff within Council. The Mayor of Strathfield Council is Cr Matthew Blackmore and the CEO is Henry Wong. Strathfield Council has adopted its community strategic plan - Strathfield 2030. The Strathfield 2030 has been developed to provide a preferred vision of the Strathfield community by the year 2030 and articulates the local community's long-term desirable future and a common direction for the Municipality. It ensures that as an organisation Council is better prepared for future challenges. The incorporation of local government in the Strathfield district commenced on June 1885 when the Municipality of Strathfield was incorporated covering the suburbs of Redmire (renamed Strathfield), Homebush and Druitt Town (now part of Strathfield South). The Homebush Municipal Council was incorporated on 13 June 1906 . In 1947, Homebush Municipal Council amalgamated into Strathfield Council. On 1 January 1949, the Municipality of Enfield was abolished and the former West Ward was joined to Strathfield Municipality. Further changes to the structure of local government were made on 1 July 1993, when the NSW Local Government Act took effect. This Act changed the responsibilities of the Mayor and Councillors and separated the functions more clearly from those of the General Manager. The new Act required local government to become more responsible, accountable and transparent in its operations.

Please note that the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD) have currently set up an engagement bus in Strathfield Park outside Red Roof Cafe to chat to the community about the Fire Ants that have been detected at Enfield Intermodal Logistics Centre (the Intermodal Centre).

The community are invited to come along and ask the NSW DPIRD team any questions related to the situation and will be at Strathfield Park until 4.30pm today and will be returning on weekdays at the same location until the end of October.

Swing by to also see the live fire ants tank and the 3D printed nest.

Council will advise of any updates to dates and times as the response unfolds.

Council is proud to once again support Share the Dignity, a wonderful Australian charity that is devoted to helping women in crisis.

The 2026 "It's in the Bag" campaign will run from Friday 2 November – Sunday 27 November. During this time, we encourage the community to first choose a handbag in good condition that you no longer use. Then, fill it with items that would make a woman feel special, pop in a thoughtful note or Christmas card and show her someone cares.

The bags can be dropped off at Strathfield Council's collection points:
🩷Strathfield Council Customer Service, 65 Homebush Road, Strathfield
🩷Strathfield Council Library, 65-67 Rochester Street, Homebush
🩷St Paul’s Anglican Church, 205–207 Burwood Road, Burwood

Unlike 90s hairstyles and rock bands, these park benches won’t be making a comeback anytime soon!

Council is excited to announce that the community can soon expect a furniture glow up along the Bay-to-Bay route in Strathfield. The outdated 90s benches and pieces of furniture along the popular track are being removed in place of modern, comfortable, and practical furniture at regular intervals.

The community and wider residents of the Inner West who ride, run, or walk into our LGA can soon expect to see these works and more completed by November 2026.

These works are part of our commitment to the community under the Strathfield Recreation and Wellness Strategy (SRWS) where Council is committed to deliver more amenities in our most popular open spaces.

We can not wait for the community to enjoy a rest along your walk, run, or cycle that's more 2026 and less 1996. Follow us on socials for updates!
