Streaky Bay Area School Striving for excellence in all aspects of education in a collaborative manner

Department for Education South Australia

The Streaky Bay Area School is situated on the pristine coastline of Western Eyre Peninsula. The community's main industries include agriculture, fishing/aquaculture, tourism/hospitality and other service industries. The school's values are care, respect, security, success and trust. Values education is a focus, providing themes which are incorporated into the R - 12 Pastoral Care program. Over the past ten years, the school has been involved in further developing teachers' pedagogical approaches through involvement in projects such as: Thinking skills, Learning to Learn, Success for Boys and the ICT Research Project - 21st Century Learning for Contemporary Classrooms. Currently the school is a John Fleming Lighthouse School and has introduced warm-ups and Explicit Teaching approaches into classrooms. Spanish is the second language that is taught from Reception to Year 8. Streaky Bay Area School has a stormwater recycling wetland and small vineyard, providing students with learning opportunities in horticulture and water conservation/science. The school prides itself on supporting students with their chosen pathways in senior secondary school. We recently had a $1.5 million upgrade of the Home Economics and Technical Studies areas into Trade Training Centres that offer Certificate II competencies in Food and Hospitality, and Building and Construction. We offer a range of subjects including university pathways, Vocational Education and Training options, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships, and distance education subjects.

Year 7 - 9 district basketball carnival was held yesterday at the Streaky Bay Town Courts.

Students played against teams from Ceduna Area School, Crossways Lutheran School, Elliston Area School and Miltaburra Area School.

All students competed respectfully and fairly and enjoyed the opportunity to compete and interact with students from areas within our district.

Thanks to Lucas Mosey for umpiring and Jayda Brougham for helping with the girls teams.

This week we celebrate our Year 12s’ last week at Streaky Bay Area School!

Yesterday, the girls became part of the staff team, embracing the challenge of impersonating a staff member. There were plenty of laughs, some very convincing impressions and lots of fun as they stepped into the shoes of their teachers for the day!

It’s been wonderful to see the Year 12s making the most of their final week, creating special memories and sharing plenty of laughs with staff and students along the way.

We wish our Year 12s all the very best as they prepare for their exams and their next chapter. You will be missed! 💙

WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 4. I hope everyone enjoyed a well-earned break and returned feeling refreshed and ready for the term ahead. It is wonderful to welcome our students and staff back, along with the new students joining Streaky Bay Area School this term. We also extend a warm welcome back to Mrs and Mr Karp.

I would like to remind all families that Daymap is our school’s central communication platform and an essential tool for staying informed and connected with your child’s learning and school life. By accessing Daymap regularly, families can stay up to date with school notices, upcoming events, ongoing assessment information, direct communication from teachers, assignment deadlines, reports, attendance information, and other important updates and notifications.

As we begin the term, our focus is clear: Finish Strong. This is more than a message for the end of the year; it is about the approach we take each day and the choices we make along the way. Over the next nine weeks, there will be plenty of opportunities to engage in new learning, grow and celebrate success, as well as challenges that will require persistence and resilience.

For our students, finishing strong means arriving ready to learn, having a go when things become difficult, taking responsibility for their choices and treating others with kindness and respect. These everyday actions may seem small, but when practised consistently, they make a significant difference to individual progress and the culture of our school. Term 4 is an opportunity for every student to build on the progress they have made throughout the year, recognise their growth and continue challenging themselves to achieve their best.

For our Year 12 students, this term marks an important milestone as they complete their schooling and prepare for the next stage of their lives. I encourage them to make the most of the opportunities ahead, seek support when needed and approach these final weeks with purpose and confidence. We are proud of how far they have come and want each student to finish their school journey with a sense of achievement and pride.

Our staff remain committed to providing purposeful learning opportunities, maintaining high expectations and building positive relationships that help every student feel seen, valued and supported. Our shared commitment to Stronger Together, Better Every Day continues to guide this work. A welcoming greeting, a helping hand, a word of encouragement or a willingness to try again all contribute to a positive school culture. When students, staff and families work together, we create the conditions for young people to flourish both at school and beyond.

In keeping with the importance of recognising those who contribute to our school, I would also like to draw your attention to the Tom Venning MP Community Education Award. This award recognises an individual who has gone above and beyond by dedicating and volunteering their time, skills and energy to support our school and make a positive difference. Nominations are welcome for a staff member, parent or community member who has made a meaningful contribution to Streaky Bay Area School. If you know someone deserving of this recognition, please email a short nomination to:
[email protected] by Friday 23 October.

As we move into Term 4, I encourage everyone to focus on what they can control: their effort, attitude, preparation and the way they respond to others. We cannot always control the challenges we face, but we can choose how we approach them. If each of us looks for small ways to improve, support one another and contribute positively each day, the collective impact can be significant.

Thank you to our staff for their continued dedication and to our families and wider community for the trust, encouragement and partnership you provide. Your support plays an important role in helping our students succeed.

Let’s approach Term 4 with energy, purpose and a shared commitment to making it count. I look forward to seeing our students continue to grow and our school community work together throughout the term.

Finish Strong. Stronger Together. Better Every Day.

Kind Regards,
Tim O’Reilly
Principal

Performing Arts Workshop

Our performing arts students were fortunate to take part in a Drama Workshop at school on Thursday 15 October 2026.

Presented by regional artist Charlee Watt as part of her touring project Caffeine Fiend, the workshop gave students the opportunity to build confidence in performance, explore creative development, and learn more about pathways in music and the performing arts.

This was a wonderful experience for our students, who thoroughly enjoyed the session and gained valuable insight into music, theatre, cabaret, songwriting, performance, and the creative industries.

Dear community members,
My name is Jaliah Johnson and for my Year 10 Exploring Identities & Futures passion project I have chosen to do the cut for cancer fundraiser on October 30th. Challenging myself and other students to raise awareness and raise money for all cancer research, in honour of anyone in this community that has lost a loved one or been impacted by cancer. This is a cause that is important to me and our community and is an opportunity to give back to the organisations that help and support this cause. I have been researching cancer organisations and foundations and would like to involve the community and school in this meaningful project. Below is the link for the school donations page I have created. We have set a goal of $250, but any amount of money raised is a step forward for the cause.

Support me as I Do It For Cancer. Because 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, I'm losing my locks to raise funds and show my support. Please sponsor me and support my efforts to give back and change lives!
