Succession planning: for a business that is resilient beyond the current generation

Succession planning can be one of the toughest aspects of family business life. According to the Family Business Association's FBA AU 2025 Family Business Barometer, 37% of family businesses noted succession planning as a major concern.

Succession planning always comes up as a hot topic when we talk about family business. But as Catherine Sayer, CEO FBA alludes to, it’s about more than who is going to step into the hot seat when Dad decides to retire. She recommends:

“….define your values, have a succession plan, communicate, have a strong tribe, document everything and ask for help.”

This is more about Thinking (see link below). It's about setting the business up so that it can continue to thrive without the current owners /family members needing to be in the business. And that's work I love doing as an ・adapt. business coach.
