A beautiful afternoon of community, culture and connection at the Alawi Youth Movement Jubilee community event at Gough Whitlam Park, Earlwood. 💙
Burwood Police joined the community alongside our Mounted Unit, the Federal Member for Barton and the State Member for Canterbury.
One moment summed up exactly why community engagement matters. A mother introduced us to two young children, around six years old, who had only recently arrived from Syria. She explained that because of their experiences back home, they were frightened of police.
We didn’t need to speak Arabic to change that moment.
A smile, a wave, a look at the police horses and a little time together was enough to show them that here, police are people they can come to for help and safety.
That is what social cohesion looks like in practice - building trust, breaking down fear and making sure every part of our community feels welcome, safe and connected.
