Thank you to everyone from Sutherland Greens who visited NSW Parliament House today to submit the Peabody petition! And huge thanks to our wonderful Catherine Reynolds who was responsible for making the petition happen! Let's push the state Labor government to get Peabody to leave our water catchment alone 👎

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 That means 800 million more tonnes of climate pollution - more than seven times what NSW emits in an entire year.

No matter where coal is dug up and burnt, we are living with the consequences: constant rebuilds as we cope with worsening floods, bushfires and heatwaves; insurance premiums going up and up.

But this isn’t over. The project still needs federal approval. The Albanese Government now faces a choice: sign off on this climate bomb, or reject it and better protect our communities.

Nick McLaren spent almost 30 years asking the questions at ABC Illawarra. Now he's on the other side of the mic, standing as the Greens candidate for Heathcote.

Senator David Shoebridge says “He's tough and he asks the tough questions and the people of Heathcote would do an amazing service for themselves if they had him in parliament asking tough questions on their behalf.”

The Geographical Names Board is now open for public comment on renaming a reserve located on the foreshore of the Woronora River.

Dulumunmun Dreaming Place honours the late Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison, a respected First Nations Elder, cultural educator and storyteller whose work strengthened understanding of Aboriginal culture, Dreaming and connection to Country in the Sutherland Shire.

Right now, Labor is reviewing the Safeguard Mechanism.

Please spare a minute to make a submission demanding something much stronger - due tomorrow! (Friday)

The Federal Labor Government’s Safeguard Mechanism is supposed to drive down emissions from Australia’s largest industrial development. Instead, the system is deeply dependent on carbon credits, allowing companies to offset their pollution by buying claimed reductions somewhere else.

Even sending in one or two sentences could help, or copying what Sue Higginson has suggested.

Australia’s Labor Government is reviewing its signature carbon offsets system - the “safeguard mechanism” that allows the biggest climate polluters to trade carbon instead of reducing emissions. Have your say now!

Right now the drinking water supply for the Sutherland Shire, the Woronora Reservoir, is getting undermined by a tax dodging American mining giant... And they want to go even deeper 👀

Please sign and share this petition to Sutherland Shire council!

https://act.350.org.au/petitions/make-big-polluters-pay-their-fair-share-sutherland-shire

The “Polluter Pays” principle is simple – if you make a mess, you should clean it up.  Communities like ours are already paying the price of climate change through higher insurance premiums and increasing disaster recovery bills. Meanwhile, big coal, oil and gas corporations are making bi...

** DEADLINE IS EXTENDED TO AUGUST 5 **

Please consider making a submission to oppose the HVO coal mine - the largest ever coal mine proposal in NSW. If approved it would lock in around 800 million tonnes of climate pollution - this is seven times the annual pollution of the entirety of NSW!

Currently there are more submissions in support of this atrocity than there are opposing it. Your submission doesn't need to be long, even just a sentence or two will do.

Please share this with your family and friends!!

Submissions here: https://www.ipcn.nsw.gov.au/form/hvo-north-and-south-open-cut-coal-continuation

A guide to making your submission: https://www.lockthegate.org.au/hunter_valley_operations (they wrongly show the deadline as August 2 - it's definitely August 5).

After you make a submission, we will publish it on the website along with your full name, state/territory and name of your organisation. You may choose not to have us publish your full name and/or state/territory; however, your organisation and any personal information you choose to include within y...
