What a beautiful Spring morning for the official opening of McGirr Park. It was fabulous to hear the inspiring speeches of 4 young people of the 2022 2168 Children’s Parliament who through their surveys of over 400 children identified the lack of parks which were safe and welcoming for kids, their families and community to enjoy.
I recall attending that Children’s Parliament session at the then newly opened Phillips Park Community Hub where the children spoke to the lack of safe spaces and participated in the discussions of what a park should look like, what they needed.
McGirr Park reflects the aspirations and voices of our children, a place of welcome for all.

Last night I attended the 30th Anniversary commemoration of the Srebrenica Genicide. The UN General Assembly on 23rd May 2024 adopted a resolution on the Srebrenica genocide designating 11 July as International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
Joining with community, community leaders and representatives of all tiers of government the evening was a powerful reminder of our shared humanity and the importance of commemoration, speaking out and listening
