Ever been tempted by the jianbing and kimbap in Eastwood? We took our community along to try some local favourites 😋

Few places in Sydney are as distinct as Eastwood, where the two sides of the station each offer their own cultural character!

With support from the City of Ryde, we hosted the Eastwood Culture Tour – Chinatown and Koreatown in September. The tour brought together 37 participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, including the Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Chinese communities who were keen discovering the charm of the Eastwood local community.

Participants visited local businesses, sampled Chinese and Korean food culture, learned about popular products and traditions, and enjoyed a hands-on Peking Opera costume and performance experience.

For those who had often passed by these shops and eateries with an interest in Chinese and Korean culture but few opportunities to experience them firsthand, the tours offered a unique glimpse into the daily life, traditions and communities that make Eastwood so vibrant.

Throughout the year, we provide a wide range of activities that help multicultural seniors stay active, culturally connected and informed through trusted information and meaningful experiences.

"The Rev Harry Herbert of the Uniting Church once rebuked Australia's Prime Minister John Howard by saying, 'We must look at our history, warts and all, or we'll never move on.' This idiom, 'Warts and all', means 'the good and the bad, inclusively'"

From the second image below, continue reading: “English Idioms” (Part 37) – Ways of Our Past

Drawing on decades of living and working in Australia, Mr Francis Lee OAM, a member of our Council of Elders, uses a clear and engaging language style to explain English idioms, combining fun language learning with cultural insight.

These stories, aimed at bringing audiences a little laughter or a shared sigh, were aired on a SBS National Radio and later compiled into a book called “English Idioms”.

CASS will share selected chapters from the book with you over time and explore the wisdom and fun of language together.

Mental Health Day at Our Kensington Indonesian Group☀️

On a beautiful sunny day, we enjoyed a picnic at Centennial Park, with support from the Randwick City Council.

We invited one of our community service workers to share practical tips on maintaining good mental health. Participants learned that positive wellbeing can be supported through simple everyday habits, such as regular exercise, socialising with friends, staying active in the community, and maintaining a healthy daily routine.

The picnic also featured a range of fun activities, including group exercise, games and line dancing, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere for everyone.

Throughout the year, we offer a wide range of activities that help multicultural seniors stay active, culturally connected, and informed through trusted information and meaningful experiences. ❤️

After experiencing a stroke, one resident lost the ability to enjoy food in the way many of us do every day. Severe muscle stiffness and swallowing difficulties meant she relied entirely on a feeding tube for nutrition, with even saliva posing a risk of aspiration.

Knowing how much she loved steamed potatoes, staff at one of our Disability Group Homes looked for a way to safely reconnect her with a favourite comfort food. Working closely with a speech pathologist, they carefully prepared the potatoes into a smooth puree and gently applied small amounts to her lips and mouth using the tip of a chopstick.

Bogong moths may be around for days or even weeks as they continue their migration. You can help by switching off unnecessary outdoor lights at night and avoiding the use of insect sprays. If you spot a moth, snap a photo and upload it to the Moth Tracker website to help researchers track their migration, understand where they are being drawn off course, and monitor population trends.

Child safety for us is a commitment and part of everyday practice across all our early childhood education and care services.

During National Child Protection Week 2026, our three Early Learning Centres and Family Day Care helped children learn about safety through age-appropriate, play-based activities designed to build awareness, confidence and practical skills:

🙅‍♀️ Personal Boundaries & Body Safety: Through the interactive Becoming Me! with Miss Featherbee puppetry show, children learned about respect, consent and recognising safe and unsafe touch.

✋ Speaking Up & Trusted Adults: Safety High 5 activities helped children recognise trusted adults in their lives who can support them and reinforced that they never have to deal with worries alone.

🚦 Road & Community Safety: From navigating tricycles past pretend traffic lights to role-playing community helpers, children learned essential road safety rules and the role emergency workers play in keeping communities safe.

☀️ Everyday Hazards Awareness: Topics including water, animal, fire and sun safety were incorporated into story times, songs and daily routines.

Through meaningful conversations and learning experiences, we continue to help children build the knowledge, confidence and resilience to make safe choices and seek support when they need it.
