2 years into the National Housing Accord and NSW is 59,500 homes behind its target.
We are forecasting by the end of the accord period NSW will miss its housing target by 150,000 homes.
These numbers are alarming.
While effort has been made on the policy front NSW is simply not seeing enough completed new homes.
We now find ourselves in very challenging economic conditions. Costs are rising, real wages are down which reduces the buying power of consumers and it’s taking longer to get from approval to completion.
Missing the target by 59,500 is no cause for celebration. But it is a call to action.
The focus must be on increasing supply of new homes, both houses and apartments.
