The Joint Committee on Children and Young People has tabled its report today on the 2026 review of the Advocate for Children and Young People and the Children's Guardian.

The annual review examines how the Advocate and Children's Guardian carried out their functions, responded to emerging challenges and supported the rights, safety and wellbeing of children and young people in NSW.

The report concludes the Committee's annual review program for the 58th Parliament and reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening outcomes for children and young people across the state.

At 4.00pm on Thursday 15 October the Legislative Assembly will debate an ePetition calling on the Government to stop the closure of Goulburn Correctional Centre Old Gaol.

The petition, presented by Wendy Tuckerman MP, Member for Goulburn, was signed by more than 20,000 people and calls on the Government to stop the proposed closure of parts of the Goulburn Correctional Centre Old Gaol, undertake transparent and evidence-based consultation with stakeholders, publicly assess alternatives to closure, protect local jobs and services, and recognise the significant social and economic impact on the Goulburn community.

The Committee has tabled its latest report on the Health Care Complaints Commission.

Tabled on 29 September 2026, the report reviews the Commission’s 2024–25 annual report and marks the third and final review by the Committee in the 58th Parliament.

It is also the first review to cover a full reporting period under Commissioner John Tansey PSM.

So, what does the Committee do? 👇

The Committee on the Health Care Complaints Commission is a parliamentary oversight committee that examines the Commission’s performance through public hearings and reviews of its annual reports. The Committee then reports its findings to Parliament.
