Christian McGowan and Alison Baker fell in love with a building that was never intended to be a home.
A 1930s brick industrial building in the NSW Hunter Valley's Dungog served as the region's water pumping station for about five decades.
It was a stark, graffiti-covered, warehouse-like structure when they came across it in 2022; a neighbouring stretch of giant pipeline that still carries water to regional centres downstream serves as a reminder of the building's previous life.
But the pair were determined to transform it into an inviting family home.
