🏖️ A CLEANER, SAFER FORESHORE THIS SUMMER 🏖️
Bayside Council has heard residents loud and clear. More resources are being put into the beachfront so Lady Robinsons Beach, the boardwalk and the wider foreshore are kept clean, well maintained and welcoming through the upcoming busy Summer Season.
This plan was triggered by my Notice of Motion, which I moved on 27 May 2026.
Council Staff then provided a comprehensive operational response, adopted at our September meeting. It sets out a clear program of policing, smoke-free compliance, events and cleaning from October 2026 to April 2027.
While Council staff have a clear direction, visitors also need to be respectful and meet the standard we expect on the foreshore.
Please do your bit. Use the extra bins and waste points, take your rubbish with you and help keep the foreshore and public amenities in good shape all summer.
🚓 NSW Police and Council Rangers
Council will ask NSW Police to partner with Rangers on evening foreshore patrols. Those patrols will educate visitors about smoking restrictions in non-designated areas and where necessary, issue infringement notices.
Water Police and Transport for NSW Maritime will also increase their presence on Botany Bay and at boat ramps. We want everyone to enjoy the bay. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
🚭 Smoke-Free Zone Along the Beach and Boardwalk
Smoking is prohibited on our beaches and foreshore. That includes ci******es, va**ng and sh**ha. Cigarette butts do not belong on the sand, the boardwalk or in the bay. Signage will be audited, damaged signs replaced and extra signs installed where needed. A No Smoking Drive will see Rangers and NSW Police patrol together. Breaches can attract fines of up to $300.
🗑️ Waste and Cleaning, Scaled Up for Summer
Services increase across the foreshore from October to April, including more than 40,000 litres of extra bin capacity. By December, an additional 50 x 660L bins and 30 x 240L bins will be deployed across the foreshore, significantly increasing waste collection capacity.
Further support is provided through 76 beach bin bag stands at key beach access points and five stainless steel bin enclosures at Pine Park. Weekend bin servicing will run longer, with dedicated beach waste clearance, extra mechanical sweeping and litter crews across six coastal sectors. Beach rakes will operate on weekends and public holidays.
🚻 Public Amenities Kept to Standard
Increased servicing of the 13 foreshore amenity buildings will run from October through to April. Weekend cleaning rises from one clean a day to two. From Christmas to 2 January and on Australia Day, three cleaning teams will cover those buildings from 8am to 8pm.
☀️ A Foreshore People Can Enjoy
Alongside the compliance work, the program will activate the beach with youth activities, sport, community events and environmental education. The aim is a safe, family friendly summer. I am still working to have Council collaborate with the NSW Police Youth Command on hosting youth events along the Brighton Beachfront. I’ll keep you posted on how that progresses.
We want everyone to have a good summer on the bay. Please use the bins, respect the smoke-free areas and help keep the foreshore and its amenities in good shape.
A well presented beach is a shared responsibility and Council is putting the resources in to do its part.
