Australia is one of the largest gas producers in the world, and Garamilla/Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory, is home to two major gas export facilities, which have been rocked by scandals.
Media reports have revealed that both these facilities were leaking pollutants at much higher levels than was previously reported or expected. 🚨
And a lack of proper regulatory intervention has raised concerns that the government is more interested in protecting the interests of gas companies, than the wellbeing of the community.
Something that Dr Louise Woodward, a Paediatrician, founding member of Darwin Children’s Clinic and Community Healthy Air NT, is worried about.
Alongside community advocates, she’s been raising concerns for years about the health risks posed by the gas industry in Darwin.
