HETI is a NSW government organisation, leading NSW public health training. From 2017, HETI also offers postgraduate courses in mental health.

The Health Education and Training Institute (HETI) is a NSW government organisation and a pillar within NSW Health. HETI provides training and education support to all staff within NSW Health and beyond.

Congratulations to Dr Heath Darrant, who has been awarded the 2026 JMO of the Year Award, in recognition of his commitment to patients, colleagues, medical education and passion for rural medicine.

Dr Darrant founded the Little Lenses Project providing free eye screening, optometrist referrals and education for rural primary school students. The program was designed to increase knowledge and improve access to eye care within the local community.

He helped organise and run the Wagga Eye Bootcamp, a practical day long course for medical students and JMOs to help expand their ophthalmology skills. He is now in the process of organising an ENT Bootcamp for medical students and JMOs.

Dr Darrant is a conjoint lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Charles Sturt University, mentoring final year medical students, and participating on the UNSW rural pathway interview panel.

He is a natural leader who is always willing to help his colleagues and is passionate about rural medicine.

This module provides foundational knowledge and practical skills to support both new and experienced clinicians in applying oxygen therapy principles in patient care. Clinicians working in critical care settings may require additional training and competencies relevant to their clinical environment.

Using interactive content and clinical scenarios, this module will help you:
- identify when oxygen therapy is appropriate
- safely administer oxygen therapy using a prescribed target oxygen saturation range
- monitor patient response, titrate oxygen therapy and recognise when escalation of care is required.

Interested in kickstarting your career in allied health? Enjoy paid, hands-on experience while studying through the Aboriginal Allied Health Cadetship Program.

For occupational therapy (OT) student Anna from Mid North Coast Local Health District, the program has provided valuable experience in rehabilitation and stroke services while helping apply university learning in a real clinical setting. How does the brain shape the way we see others?

Every day across NSW Health, our brains rely on fast, automatic shortcuts that support rapid thinking and decision-making. These shortcuts are useful, but they can also quietly influence how we see others, make decisions and interact with patients and colleagues, often without us realising.

This learning module helps staff explore how unconscious bias forms, understand its impact on everyday interactions and decisions, and discover practical, evidence-based strategies informed by Harvard research to recognise and interrupt bias.
