The fire danger rating for today, Monday 12th October 2026, is EXTREME. A TOTAL FIRE BAN is in place.

Fire Danger Ratings give you clear actions you can
take. The higher the rating is, the more dangerous the

🔥 HAZARD REDUCTION BURN: KENTHURST 🔥

Fire crews are planning to take advantage of favourable conditions over the coming days to undertake a planned hazard reduction burn to prepare for the Bush Fire Danger Period.

A hazard reduction burn is scheduled for Sunday (27th) through to Tuesday (29th). The burn will be in the vicinity of Porters Road, Kenthurst. The smoke from this burn may be visible throughout surrounding areas, including Annangrove Road, Pitt Town Road, and Cattai Ridge Road, from Sunday through to Tuesday.

Residents in the immediate vicinity (Porters Rd, Cadwells Rd, Smeardon Pl, Parkcrest Pl, Oakridge Pl, and Nyari Rd) are advised to:

🪟 Keep doors and windows closed.
🪑 Cover outdoor furniture and retract pool covers.
👕 Remove washing from clotheslines.
🐕 Secure pets in a protected area.
🫁 If you have a respiratory condition, please reduce outdoor activities and keep reliever medication nearby.

🔥 HIGH FIRE DANGER RATING TOMORROW🔥

SATURDAY 19th SEPTEMBER 2026, will have a FDR of HIGH for Greater Sydney.

Getting ready for a bush fire is easier than you think. Come see us this weekend on Sunday, to discuss your bush fire survival plan so you know exactly what to do when a fire threatens your property.

From a hot meal and a fresh cuppa, to a friendly chat, our job is more than just serving food — especially during the long, tough days. Behind every meal we serve is a crew of volunteers who not only look after each other, but support our firefighters, our district staff and keep the team going. Today, we’re checking in on our catering crew, our firefighters and our wider RFS family who put themselves on the line for our community.

Sometimes a simple question, a meal and a moment together can make all the difference. Check in with your fellow volunteers.�

🚫 FDR UPDATE 🔥

The fire danger rating for tomorrow, Saturday 5th September 2026, will be EXTREME due to forecast warm, dry and windy conditions. A TOTAL FIRE BAN will be in place from midnight tonight.

🔥 Know your fire risk and what you will do if fire threatens.
🏡 Check your bush fire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready.
🔥 If a fire starts, and you or your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
🚗 Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas.

🚒 Remember to report all unattended fires to Triple Zero (000).

🕊️ 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 (𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺) 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘆 🕊️

Today, we said our final goodbyes. We cried, we smiled, we laughed and we shared stories. We remembered the kindhearted, generous, friendly, and fun loving man Norm was. Norm’s dedication to serving his country was profound, from the Military, to the Port Authority, and then to the NSW RFS.

Norms passion with the NSW RFS started in 1976, where he joined the Annangrove RFS Brigade. As we heard today in Norms eulogy, his “go bag” always being at the door with his boots, with Norm eagerly waiting for the pager to go off. To then joining The Hills Catering Brigade (formerly Canteen Brigade) where you’d find Norm guarding the drinks, or telling us stories of his time in the military, and being a mentor for new members. Finally, Norms passion led him to the Mudgee Heritage Brigade. Where he was able to help preserve NSW RFS history and share it with the community. For 50 years, Norm was one of the most respected members of the NSW RFS community.

The Hills Catering Brigade would like to extend our deepest condolences to Norm's family, friends and other brigade members. Norm will be sincerely missed but forever remembered.

National Volunteer Week 2026

With the theme of “Your Year to Volunteer”, on behalf of The Hills Catering Brigade, we’d like to say thank you to all our volunteers and district staff. Your time, support, contributions, love and energy that you all give to our brigade and to the RFS, is commendable. Each and everyone of you makes our brigade feel like family.

The Hills Relay For Life 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♂️💜

A huge shoutout to Karen, Grahame, Alison, Ken and Toni, for representing The Hills Catering Brigade at the Hills Relay For Life. Supporting such an invaluable cause, raising funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services.

The Hills RFS, as a collective group, placed third again in the team event, raising over $300,000.

A massive effort from all!
