As you know this page battles torrents of online nastiness from the RightWing paid(?) commenters every time we highlight a Labor policy or question whether the ON/LNP has any worthwhile policies to solve our problems. We found this post interesting.
What does the Ukrainian bombing of Russian “Yandex” data centres have to do with Australian politics?
If you go on social media today, you may notice that you’re seeing a LOT less content from crazy right wing accounts - and potentially also nutty “left” ones, too.
In the escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Russia has been bombing Ukraine civil infrastructure - especially the heating and electricity systems required for civilians to survive the harsh Ukrainian winter.
Ukraine has retaliated by bombing Russian data centres; there are very few human casualties, but massive disruptions to Russian logistics - “Yandex” is the Russian equivalent of Google and imagine the disruption to your own life if Google and all its associated apps and systems stopped working for you.
Well, well, well… an inability to get into email is not the only problem Russia has this morning.
Russian data centres run with the integrated cooperation of the Putinist regime, and the scale of Russia’s online dirty work is vast to behold…
… because since Ukraine started taking out the data centres, people have noticed that a HUGE network of the angry, right-wing pages and accounts that represent MAGA in the US, the AfD in Germany, Reform in the UK and all those other right-wing extremist parties have suddenly gone CONSPICUOUSLY dark.
In fact, on Threads, large accounts have been publishing outright engagement bait to a noticeable LACK of the typical outrage-machine response since the Russian data centres started burning.
We KNOW that Russia amplifies content that drives division in democracies. We KNOW that they promote movements that share their authoritarian values and demonise their opponents. You can read my book “QAnon and On” to see the hard research on this stuff.
But to wake up and see people putting out content that says “Trump is in the Epstein Files” to NO pushback from someone with a name like PrincessPatriotMAGA3837754 makes “obvious troll obvious” in the language of old internet.

In the meantime, I’m just going to enjoy that I put out a Thread calling PHON an organised movement of narcissistic eels with candidates drawn from the most psychotic fringe of the cooker movement who would sell out this country for a packet of crackers and in an hour the only pushback I got was “hey, man, don’t be so mean to eels”.
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.
