Winchelsea is the key growth area in the Surf Coast Shire, with the population expected to pass 10,000 in years to come. And yet infrastructure, such as public transport, is not keeping up with this growth. More frequent trains, an upgraded station and local bus connections are important to reduce car dependency. A good public transport system is one that meets the needs of our community, enabling people to access work and study opportunities, attend appointments and connect with community. This November vote for better public transport for Polwarth. Vote Green.

In 2022, as part of the Torquay bus review, a route was planned that would service the growth corridor in Torquay’s west. This was scrapped while development continues to occur in the area. Residents, workers and visitors to homes and businesses along the route are left without a public transport option. The one route that’s nearest to the area is a poor service, with infrequent services that stop running early in the evening, and a much worse situation on weekends. This is not a bus timetable designed to meet the needs of the community. This is only further entrenching car dependency. Only the Greens will push for a bus network that enables you to get where you need to go, when you need to be there.

A lack of adequate public transport for Anglesea reduces access to employment and education opportunities, appointments and social connection. It reduces independence for those who can’t or are unable to drive, increases congestion and makes our streets less safe.

The Greens support an expanded bus network across our region, to help residents, workers and visitors to get where they need to be, when they need to be there. And to live in, work in and visit our region without relying on a car to get around. This November, vote Green to demand better public transport in Polwarth.

Community consultation in the 2023 Torquay bus review called for a direct route linking Torquay and Armstrong Creek to Deakin Uni and Epworth. This route was ignored and today it takes 3x as long to travel to Deakin by bus than it does by car. This creates car dependency or excessive travel times for staff, students, visitors and patients at the uni and hospital. The Greens support better bus connections across our region to help you get to where you need to be, when you need to be there.

After years of inaction, and 100 days out from the election, Labor have finally acted to rezone the Spring Creek Valley. This is a win for power people power, the thousands of community members who have lobbied Labor and Liberal governments for decades.

Thank you Surf Coast Environment Group and GT Alliance

The Greens have stood with our community and will continue to stand with our community in protecting our environment. Always. Not just when it’s politically convenient.

From protecting our ocean, Corio Bay and climate from the gas industry, to protecting our rivers and wetlands from water extraction, urban development and duck shooting, the Greens will always stand with the community.

Spring Creek, just like Anglesea River, has shown that people power can win. This November, vote for the one party that is on the side of the environment, always. Vote Green. Sarah Mansfield MPJesse Holden - Greens candidate for Polwarth
