5th Aviation Regiment - Australian Army

Today marks the second anniversary of the 2023 MRH90 Taipan accident near Lindeman Island, Queensland.

Captain Danniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Warrant Officer Class Two Joseph ‘Phillip’ Laycock and Corporal Alexander Naggs from the 6th Aviation Regiment were tragically killed in the accident.

We keep Captain Lyon, Lieutenant Nugent, Warrant Officer Class Two Laycock and Corporal Naggs in our thoughts and remember them as dedicated Combat Aviators, who were committed to supporting our soldiers, special forces and the Australian Defence Force.

The 6th Aviation Regiment and participants in Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025 will pause today to remember our fallen aviators. They are dearly missed.

Up to three Australian Army CH-47F Chinook helicopters from the 5th Aviation Regiment will operate in and around the Townsville region in support of ANZAC Day commemorations on Friday the 25th of April 2025 🚁 .

The communities of Townsville and Ingham can expect increased aircraft movement and associated noise between 07:30am to 10:00am. We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this event.
