NFIA - QUEENSLAND COMMITMENT TO INDUSTRY AWARD 2025 - Very proud and honored to have been recognised for our contribution to the Fire Industry. I say "our" because achievements like this are rarely individual - they are built on the support of an incredible team, family, and friends. Thanks to all who have helped me along the way. I would also like to thank NFIA and encourage all Australian fire industry companies to become a member. BIGGER BETTER STRONGER TOGETHER!

At Fortifire, our brand is more than just a name – it’s a symbol of our commitment to protecting people and properties from hazards.

Fortifire’s brand was developed by renowned Australian Brand and Marketing Specialist Jacqueline James-Eggins, who played a key role in evolving the Shine Lawyers brand over many years. More recently, Jacqueline has brought her dedication to maintaining a gold standard in branding in her role as Chief Marketing Officer with the North Queensland Cowboys.

The Fortifire logo is a combination of elements that reflect the company’s name, services, and values.

The Meaning Behind Our Name and Logo:

Fortify Your Safety: Our name, Fortifire, is inspired by the word fortify, symbolising our unwavering commitment to reinforcing safety and protection. The prefix “Forti-” is derived from the Latin word fortis, meaning strong or powerful. This reflects our dedication to providing reliable and resilient services.

Focus on Fire Safety: At conception, Fortifire focused on delivering Fire Safety Service. The “Fire” in Fortifire highlights our core expertise in fire safety, prevention, and protection. It represents our original focus and ongoing commitment to safeguarding lives and properties from fire-related hazards.

Vibrant and Unique Colors: Our colour palette is bold and vibrant, embodying energy, warmth, and alertness—all crucial elements in fire safety. The chocolate hue, a rare choice in the trades sector, was selected to set us apart in the market. This colour not only symbolises our distinctiveness but also reflects the personal preference of our founder, who has a particular fondness for chocolate.

Shield of Defense: The shape of our logo is inspired by a knight’s shield, a timeless symbol of defense and protection. This element signifies our role in defending against fire and other disasters, ensuring the safety of our clients.

Our Tagline: DEFEND AGAINST DISASTER – This phrase encapsulates our core mission: to provide robust and reliable services that protect and secure against potential dangers.

The Fortifire logo is a visual representation of our dedication to excellence in fire safety and beyond. It’s a promise to our clients that we stand ready to defend against any disaster, ensuring compliance and safeguarding what matters most.

“Do you smell smoke?” Your everyday tech can cause battery fires

With thanks to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES)

From January to September 2023, QFES recorded 47 residential structure fires, eight non-residential structure fires, and 38 other fires that were reported as having been due to lithium-ion batteries.

Rechargeable lithium-ion battery (RLIB) powered devices can cause explosions and intense fires, leaving little time to escape.

Fast facts:

- 60% of people surveyed by QFES said they owned an RLIB device–when in fact the average for Queensland households is six devices.

-78% of respondents said they sometimes leave batteries and devices charging when they go out or go to sleep, while 45% said they do this always or often.

- Almost half (48%) of Queenslanders charge devices on soft surfaces or in direct sunlight, which is a significant fire risk.

- Younger Queenslanders (18-29 years) are less likely to turn the charger off when their device battery is full (32%) compared to the 45–65 years cohort (47%).

-Only 12% of respondents strongly agree they have a good knowledge of the fire risks from RLIBs.

If you’ve got scooters around your business, you can help to educate your workforce about the potential risk of battery related fires.

Messages you can share to increase awareness:

- Keep electric vehicles or scooters maintained as per manufacturer’s instructions.

- Charge batteries as per manufacturer’s instructions.

- Check for damage to any charging cables and plugs before use.

- Only use manufacturer recommended chargers, cables, and plugs.

- Check if devices need to be disconnected when charged, or only charged to a certain capacity.
