🚮 Townsville City Council is upgrading the Stuart Waste Facility with new landfill cells to extend its lifespan and avoid the cost of a new site.

The 12‑month project will also boost local jobs and improve environmental compliance. ✨

🚧 Queensland Rail will be upgrading the level crossing at 𝗢𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗸 from 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟵 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟮 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, with a detour in place for traffic via Gunnado Road.

🐈 The Animal Care and Adoption Centre is offering discounted adoptions, with cats available for $50 and kittens for $100 until 13 June.

𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱’𝘀 𝗚𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘃 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿, with another key milestone reached on the 38m Sooning Street Bridge.

🏗️ Structural works are progressing well, with deck beams now being installed and more than 150m³ of concrete poured. Pending weather and supply conditions, the bridge is 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆, with final works continuing into August.

The original structure spanning across Gustav Creek was destroyed in the severe weather events beginning at the end of 2024. The project to reconstruct the bridge to modern standards is jointly funded by the 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 under the 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 (𝗗𝗥𝗙𝗔).

𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 during beam installation. Council thanks the Magnetic Island community for its patience as works continue 💛
