πŸš’πŸ€ A Fantastic Night at the Station! πŸ€πŸš’

Last night, our Brigade had the absolute pleasure of hosting members from Spring Bay Rotary Club at the station.

It was a great opportunity to connect, share stories, and talk about what we do. Brigade Chief Chris Izzard spoke to the group about our emergency capabilities, as well as the proud 85 year history of our Brigade and how we have grown over the years.

Our guests also got a first-hand look at our:
β€’ πŸš’ Emergency vehicles
β€’ βš™οΈ Specialised equipment
β€’ 🏒 Station facilities

Two of our crew members also put our hydraulic cutters and spreaders to work by demonstrating our Road Crash Rescue (RCR) tools and skillsπŸ› οΈπŸš’

To top off a wonderful evening, the Rotary team kindly provided a fantastic BBQ which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

Thank you so much to Spring Bay Rotary for your support, your keen interest in our work, and of course, for the delicious food! It is community partnerships like this that keep us going strong. πŸ’ͺ

High fire danger is forecast across much of Tasmania today, particularly in the East Coast and Midlands districts.

Tasmania Fire Service and partner agencies Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Sustainable Timber Tasmania are prepared, with strike teams and firefighting aircraft on standby, but we need the community to do their part.

βœ… Avoid activities that could start a fire
βœ… Ensure campfires, fire pits and burn-offs are fully extinguished
βœ… Review your Bushfire Plan
βœ… If you see smoke or flames, or a fire that appears to have reignited, don’t assume someone else has reported it. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
βœ… Stay informed via the TasALERT app, tasalert.com and ABC Local Radio.

We're working hard to keep the community safe, but everyone has a role to play in reducing fire risk.

Tasmanians are being encouraged not to let cooler weather conditions create a false sense of security, with elevated fire danger forecast for parts of the state, particularly along the East Coast, tomorrow and later this week.

While rain, hail and even snow are forecast for some areas tomorrow, a high fire danger rating is forecast for North East, East Coast, Midlands, South East, Central North and Furneaux Islands, with dry fuels and periods of strong winds continuing to create conditions that could support fast-moving fires.

A High Fire Danger rating means there is a heightened risk, and people should be alert for fires in their area, and decide what they will do if a fire starts.

Tasmania Fire Service Deputy Chief Officer Matt Lowe said the forecast weather highlighted that bushfire risk can still exist even when some parts of the state experience colder and wetter conditions.

"People may see rain or colder temperatures and assume the fire risk has eased across Tasmania, but that's not necessarily the case," Deputy Chief Officer Lowe said.

"Parts of the East Coast remain dry and are expected to experience elevated fire danger this week. Combined with windy conditions, any fire that starts has the potential to spread quickly."

"Tasmania Fire Service and partner agencies are ready to respond to incidents, but we need everyone to play their part in preventing fires from starting in the first place."

"We're asking people to take care when using anything that could spark a fire and to ensure any campfires, fire pits or recent burn-offs are fully extinguished. Even after rain, embers can remain active and reignite when conditions become favourable."

β€œThe current conditions are a timely reminder to prepare for the months ahead.”

"Now is a good opportunity to review your bushfire plan, understand the risks in your local area and make sure your property is prepared before the fire season becomes more active."

β€œIf you see a fire, don’t assume a fire has already been reported, and call Triple Zero (000) if you see smoke, flames, or signs of a fire – you could be the first person reporting an incident.”

Tasmanians are encouraged to visit bushfire.tas.gov.au for bushfire preparedness information and to create or update their Bushfire Plan.
