A great weekend filled with plenty of laughs, friendly competition and memories made with our fellow brigades. Here are some of our favourite moments from the championships.

A huge thank you to the amazing Michael Fisher NSWRFS for capturing all the action and putting up with us occasionally hosing him down… sorry mate! 😂💦

🥉 3rd Place at the Hunter Area Championships! 🥉

What a fantastic weekend for Tuncurry Rural Fire Brigade as our members travelled to compete in the 2026 Hunter Area Championships.

After plenty of fun, some friendly competition, and more than our fair share of amazing food - thank you Great Lakes Catering Brigade , we are incredibly proud to announce that Tuncurry Brigade finished 3rd overall!

Congratulations to NSW RFS - Vacy Brigade on taking out 1st place and NSW Rural Fire Service - Central Coast District Team on securing 2nd place. Well done to all teams who competed and made the weekend such a success.

Finishing on the podium means that Tuncurry Brigade has qualified for the 2026 State Championships in Dubbo this September, and we can’t wait to represent the Hunter Area on the state stage.

A special congratulations also goes to our friends from NSW RFS - Diamond Beach Brigade for their hard work, sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the weekend. We’d also like to thank our new friends from Valla Rural Fire Brigade Brigade for their support and for being an awesome bunch — and without a doubt, the best dressed team there in their Hawaiian shirts! 🌺😎

Thank you to everyone who helped organise and support the championships. Thank you as well to all the people who showed up and were so kind. We had a great time and are already looking forward to Dubbo!

🌙❄️ An early start for some of our brigade members this morning, getting in some training before we head away to the Hunter Area Championships.

With winter well and truly here, the cold conditions provided the perfect opportunity for our Hunter Area Championships team members to get some extra training in before heading away. It was a great chance to refresh skills, build confidence and prepare for competing in the cooler conditions we’re likely to encounter over the weekend.

The chilly morning also gave us a pretty special view, with a crescent moon hanging above our truck as the first hint of sunrise appeared on the horizon.

We’re looking forward to representing NSW Rural Fire Service - Mid Coast District alongside NSW RFS - Diamond Beach at the Hunter Area Championships and continuing to build our knowledge and skills.

Today marks one year since the devastating May 2025 floods that impacted communities across the MidCoast region.

It’s a time to reflect on the challenges faced, the lives impacted, and the incredible community spirit shown throughout the response and recovery efforts. In the face of uncertainty, people came together to support one another in any way they could.

Our members were proud to stand alongside other emergency services, volunteers and community members, assisting where needed during a difficult and demanding time for the region.

A year on, many people are still recovering from the impacts of the floods, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected.

From all of us at Tuncurry Rural Fire Brigade, thank you to everyone who lent a hand, checked in on their neighbours, and showed what community is all about. 🚒

🚒 This week marks the beginning of National Volunteer Week, with this year’s theme being “Your Year to Volunteer”.

At Tuncurry Rural Fire Brigade, our brigade is built on volunteers from all walks of life. Whether you’re a high school student aged 12–18, studying at university, working full time, part time or casually, a stay-at-home parent or retired — there is a place for you in the NSW RFS.

Volunteering is about far more than fighting fires. It’s about supporting your community, learning valuable skills, making lifelong friendships and being there when people need help most.

If you’ve ever thought about joining the NSW RFS, make this your year to volunteer. 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

Send us a message or come down to our station at 39 Grey Gum Road on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to chat with our members and learn more about getting involved🚒

Yesterday, Tuncurry 1 responded to a bush fire on Burdekins Road, Bulahdelah.

On arrival, crews linked up with Wootton 1 and assisted with property protection. Shortly after, Tuncurry 1 was redirected to a property along Myall River Road that had come under threat, where we worked alongside Pindimar / Tea Gardens 9 to defend the home.

The landowners were well-prepared with a firefighting unit and assisted crews until the fire front had safely passed. Crews, including numerous other MidCoast brigades were then tasked with commencing tactical backburning operations to help contain the fire.

Tuncurry 1 returned to station just before midnight after a long and demanding day on the fireground.

This incident is a timely reminder to ensure you have a bush fire survival plan in place and that your property is prepared year-round. Preparation can make all the difference.
