Wet weather gear ✅ EPIRB ✅ First aid kit ✅ And now, an AED. ❤️

Tasmanian Walking Company is now equipping its guides with St John Pocket AEDs, taking lifesaving equipment with them into Tasmania’s remote wilderness.

It’s another way to be prepared when help may be a long way away.

Could a Pocket AED be the next addition to your adventure kit?

🎃 Fake blood, bandages and a Teddy Bear Hospital ambulance... just your average Halloween at Bunnings! 👻

We had so much fun making fake wounds with the kids, with a sneaky bit of first aid learning thrown in as they discovered how to bandage their gruesome creations. 🩹

It’s all part of making first aid fun, practical and something kids feel confident having a go at.

Did you know St John Tasmania offers free first aid training for primary school students? If you’d like our First Aid in Schools program to visit your school, let them know!

We're crowd-sourcing the ultimate CPR playlist. 🎶❤️

For , we asked our team for their go-to CPR songs. Now it's your turn!

The brief? **100–120 BPM**. That's the beat to aim for when doing chest compressions.

So, what's making your playlist? Drop your CPR anthem in the comments. 👇

We're not entirely sure how Bob Irwin ended up in this CPR lesson, but here we are. 😂

It's and our trainer Angus is here with a few laughs and some seriously useful lifesaving advice.

The big takeaway? CALL. PUSH. SHOCK. ❤️

📞 CALL 000 if someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally.

🙌 PUSH hard and fast in the centre of their chest.

⚡ SHOCK with an AED as soon as one is available. It'll guide you through what to do.

You don't need to know everything to make a difference. But knowing these three steps is a pretty good start.

Give it a watch. You might learn something that saves a life.

A big thank you to the wonderful members of the Highcroft-Stormlea CWA for their generous donation of beautifully handcrafted Buddy Bears! 🧸❤️

These little bears will be put to good use by our Community and Event Health Services teams, helping bring comfort and reassurance to people during difficult or stressful moments.

Each bear has been lovingly made, and we’re so grateful for the time, care and kindness that goes into every one.

A special thank you to Jane Kerin, Community Support Officer South from the Lindisfarne Branch CWA, for kindly delivering them to us. Jane is pictured here with our team member Kaila and some of these lovely creations.

Shocktober is here ⚡

And this month, we’re making AEDs a little less intimidating.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing practical tips, myth-busters, demos, special offers and simple information about cardiac arrest and AEDs, including a closer look at our new Pocket AED and plenty more around Restart a Heart Day.

Because the more familiar AEDs feel, the easier it is to imagine using one when it matters.

Keep an eye on our page throughout Shocktober.

Last week, we said goodbye to a much-loved member of the St John Ambulance Tasmania family, David Burns CStJ.

David, whose contribution spanned several decades, joined the Claremont Division in 1975 and was promoted to corporal the following year. Together with his late wife Kath, he went on to establish the Brighton Family Division, creating a welcoming and inclusive place for members of all ages.

David was appointed Corps Officer (Cadets) in 1992 and Corps Superintendent in 1996, before later serving as State Superintendent. He also contributed as a Training Branch instructor.

His remarkable service was recognised with promotion to Commander of the Order of St John and the awarding of the Service Medal and five bars.

Our thoughts remain with Dorothy, David’s family and friends, and all those across St John who knew and loved him.

Rest peacefully, David, reunited with Kath.
