It was fascinating to tell the story behind the establishment of the ‘Pooginook West Nature Reserve’ north east of Waikerie for Solstice Media's Regional Showcase Program.
The project by not-for-profit conservation organisation Nature Foundation involves restoring 2,396 hectares of land back to its natural state to protect endangered wildlife and threatened species.

The creator of SA's original Monash Playground in the Riverland, the late Grant Telfer, has been honoured with a bronze statue. More than 200 people attended the official unveilling ceremony on Sunday, August 23., 2026. The statue depicts Mr Telfer as many would remember him, in his white overalls with bare feet, and often on a bicycle. The playground was famous across Australia in the 1970s and 1980s and included 33 different types of seesaws, giant slides, and a rollercoaster. I enjoyed attending the historical unveiling of the Grant Telfer statue and covering this story for Solstice Media's InDaily.

The Berri and Loxton communities are invited to participate in 'The Equip Study ' to strengthen psychological preparedness and community capacity for future extreme weather events.
This community-based mental wellbeing program is designed to help regional Australians prepare for more frequent challenges from events like fires, floods, and droughts.
It is being funded by the Australian Government’s Medical Research Future Fund and instead of focusing on recovery will aim to build preparedness and resilience.
A Berri/Loxton local advisory group to advise the research team is working on this initiative.
Those who may be interested in taking part in this program and who live or work in these areas are encouraged to take part in a survey and the opportunity to attend a workshop on Sunday May 31 from 9am to 5.30pm at the Berri Hotel.
People interested in attending can email [email protected] and complete a baseline workshop survey by Friday April 17.
