Rotary Peace Education Series (26-28 June 2026) at The University of Queensland
Dear Rotary members and friends of our Rotary Peace Centre at The University of Queensland,
We would like to invite you to participate in the very first Rotary Peace Education Series, taking place 26-28 June 2026 at The University of Queensland (St Lucia, Australia).
The Rotary Peace Education Series (ROPES) is a brand-new education programme, exclusively designed for Rotarians (and their families and friends) as well as Rotary staff who are interested in deepening their knowledge of conflict resolution and peace building. Participants gain an advanced understanding of the cutting-edge research on global conflict trends, the new challenges to world peace, the role of gender and youth in conflict resolution, and the visual dimensions of war and peace.
This in-person, three full-day education series is led by the Rotary Peace Centre at The University of Queensland in close collaboration with Rotary International. It enables Rotarians to directly learn from, and interactively engage with, our world-leading peace and conflict resolution experts and award-winning teachers.

We would be delighted to welcome you at this exciting educational event. Please also help us spread the word by sharing this email and/or flyer with anyone else within your broader Rotary International network.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
With best wishes,
Sebastian Kaempf

Walkerville Rotary members and friends gathered together on Wednesday evening to celebrate our years achievements and to mark the coming festive season. We were joined by councillor Steve Rypp and Norm Coleman from the RSL. Choir leader Helen guided us ably through a hearty round of carol singing.
Grant King, Rotary Peace Pole Coorfinator had encouraged us to pause a moment to commemorate the weekends tragic events in Bondi. We recognised the role of Rotary in bringing peace and goodwill to the world through our many programmes. This year we had a peace pole installed at Mary P Harris Bundilla Reserve, number 100 of the many that are located in Adelaide. This reflection was concluded by singing John Lennon’s Imagine.

President Barry thanked us for your efforts last Sunday. He said “It was just a shame the clouds opened up and shut down the fair early. That's the first time since I've been involved that it's closed early.
The concert is next on the list and then our Christmas Dinner.
I'm on the high seas until the weekend of the concert, so see you then.”

It was a pleasure to wave off Alice who our club has sponsored for a five day voyage on the One and All and to meet her mum.
On her return, Alice will present at a dinner meeting on a date to be arranged.
Cheers Liz Horrocks
Walkerville Rotary Club has been a regular supporter of the sailing challenge and we look forward to hearing Alice's story.

Wednesday evening saw Walkerville Rotarians joined by mayor Melissa Jones, other councillors and various friends, partners and visiting Rotarians to celebrate another successful Rotary year. Congratulations to president Barry Blakebrough for agreeing to come around again. At Walkerville if you have a good president you hang on to them.
Highlights of the year included the installation of a peace pole, another successful birthing kit packing day, an award winning Environment and Energy forum plus support for groups suffering the effects of natural and man made disasters nationally and internationally.

Today was BBQ time again for Walkerville. Supporting Eco Threds we welcomed Joanne and Corey to our team. Great to meet several council staff and our local member Lucy Hood who all sampled our fare.

Thursday evenings citizenship ceremony in Walkerville was an inspiring event. New citizens were welcomed from 11 nations with a range of individuals, couples and families becoming Australians.
The event was held during refugees week and while I could not confirm that all new citizens had refugee backgrounds Mayor Melissa Jones and Senator Marielle Smith speaking on behalf of minister Tony Burke did reference the challenges that some had faced to be with us on the night.
The Walkerville Rotary Club gifted a golden wattle to each group as our way of welcoming new citizens to Walkerville. We have done this for many years and hopefully many of our gifts are now well edtablished in Walkerville gardens.
