🚒 INDUSTRIAL FIRE – CARDIFF 🔥

Shortly after 10am on Saturday, 17 October 2026, Fire and Rescue NSW crews responded to a fire at a grain silo facility on Nelson Road, Cardiff. The incident was initially reported as a motor fire before escalating, prompting additional crews from Wallsend 484 and nearby stations to attend.

Firefighters faced extreme heat, with temperatures reaching approximately 300°C in vertical ductwork leading towards the basement. As the fire spread through parts of the facility, crews withdrew from hazardous areas, reassessed conditions and adjusted their approach.

At around 2pm, firefighters accessed the grinder hopper where they located and extinguished the main fire. Crews then worked through the afternoon to cool the structure, extinguish remaining hot spots and confirm the area was safe.

The incident was brought under control shortly after 5pm. No injuries were reported, and the coordinated response successfully prevented further escalation.

Spring is a good time to clear out what’s built up around your home. Remove leaves and debris from gutters and cut back overgrown vegetation close to the house.

Keeping these areas clear can help reduce the risk as bushfire season approaches.
