Recent events have had a significant impact on many people across our community. Everyone processes traumatic incidents differently, and it's important to remember that support is available if you need it.

If you are feeling affected, please reach out to family, friends, colleagues, or professional support services. There is no shame in asking for help.

As shared by Rural City of Wangaratta, Australian Red Cross volunteers will be available to provide Psychological First Aid, practical support, information, or simply a listening ear for anyone who may benefit.

Please look after yourself and those around you. Checking in on someone can make a real difference.

Recent events may be distressing for many members of our community. People can experience a wide range of reactions and it is normal for everyone to respond differently. Supports are available for those who may find it helpful.

Thinking about buying an electric fat bike?

Fat bikes are easy to spot thanks to their extra-wide tyres, but don't assume every electric fat bike is a legal e-bike.

Some models are capable of speeds and power levels that place them in the motorcycle category.

If that's the case, riders need:

✅ Registration
✅ A motorcycle licence or learner permit
✅ To be 18+

Check the rules before you buy: https://transport.vic.gov.au/road-and-active-transport/active-transport/bicycles/electric-bikes

Very Disappointing Results on Our Roads

Police extremely disappointed with the driving behaviour detected across the weekend, particularly given the continued number of high-range speeding offences.

🚨 Murray Valley Highway, Nathalia - A 30-year-old female driver was detected travelling at 144km/h in a 100km/h zone. She received an $889 infringement and an immediate 6-month licence suspension.

This is now the third driver detected travelling in excess of 140km/h in the past month. Excessive speed continues to be one of the major contributing factors in serious and fatal collisions on our roads.

🚨 Nathalia A 24-year-old male motorcycle rider was intercepted riding an unlicensed and unregistered motorcycle, while also failing to wear an approved helmet. The rider received $2,091 in fines.

🚨 Murray Valley Highway, Nathalia A 35-year-old male driver was detected driving an unregistered vehicle whilst unlicensed. The driver received $2,092 in fines.

These results are incredibly disappointing and entirely preventable. In a single weekend, police detected excessive speeding, unlicensed driving, unregistered vehicles, and a motorcyclist riding without a helmet.

Police will continue to proactively patrol our roads and target those who choose to disregard the road rules.

Victoria Police and the Moira Shire Council would like to thank the community for attending the CoolHeads Young Driver Program on Wednesday night in Cobram. There were over 60 people who joined us, both parents showing their commitment to their young adults and those investing in their own road safety education.

To start off the evening, The Cobram Lions Club cooked up a storm with a sausage sizzle, thank you for you amazing community spirit!

We couldn’t host such an event without the amazing support of our guest speakers. A very big thank you D/Sgt Hill from the Major Collision Investigation Unit, His Honour Watkins from the Magistrate’s Court of Victoria, Luke Herezo from Cobram SES and Nilsson Smyth from the Amber Community.
Leonie Francis from the Amber Community also graced our stage providing information about the support they provide to all affected by road trauma.
Thank you to Aroma Deli for beautiful thank you gifts for our guest speakers, and to HS West Motors for our lucky door prizes. Your support is appreciated.

All our guests shared their own unique experiences in road collisions, providing an insight to the raw consequences of road trauma and all sharing the same message, we want everyone to make it home safe.
