We’re trialling an off-road amphibious vehicle to test how it could help flood response in isolated communities! 🛞

The amphibious ARGO vehicle will be based in the Mid North Coast and trialled for 6 months.

Training took place over the weekend, with 10 members now ready to operate the specialised vehicle.

Unlike a conventional side-by-side vehicle, the Argo can transition between land and water, floating when required and using its eight low-pressure tyres to propel itself through water.

We’re excited to see through the trial whether the capability has a future within the NSW SES fleet 🙌

Storm Season has arrived!

01/09/2026

Spring has arrived and so has storm season - it's time to make sure you stay ahead of the storm! 💐☔️

Storm-ready households start early. Before the next storm, take three simple steps to help protect yourself, your household and your property:

🔸 1. Prepare early
Choose one job to do this weekend, such as clearing your gutters, checking your roof or preparing your emergency kit.

🔸 2. Stay informed
Before the next warning, download Hazards Near Me NSW and know where to find trusted information.

🔸 3. Act safely
When severe weather arrives, follow official warnings and advice and make safety your priority.

Prepare early. Stay informed. Act safely.

Happy birthday and thank you to all.

Happy 20th Birthday to our dedicated State Operations Centre (SOC) in Wollongong! 🎉🎈

Established in 2006, the SOC has become the operational heartbeat of the NSW SES, providing a central point for coordinating responses to floods, storms, rescue incidents, land search, and other emergencies in every corner of NSW.

When you call us on 132 500, our SOC is where your calls are received and then tasked to units! ☎️

Over 20 years, thousands of volunteers and staff have worked from or supported operations from the centre.

While technology and emergency management has changed a lot over the past 20 years, the commitment of the people working within it has not.

We're proud to celebrate this milestone and all the incredible work that has been achieved along the way 🥳

After going through our Youth Internship Program, Mikayla Cairns became a volunteer at just 16 years old with NSW SES Ballina Unit 🤩

“I signed up for the internship program and through that I started learning things I never thought I would as a young person,” Mikayla said.

In the last financial year, more than 2,269 people joined the NSW SES, with 1,160 new members aged between 16 and 34, joining Mikayla and other young people who are helping shape the future of emergency services 👏

For Mikayla, becoming a volunteer in 2024 opened the door to a passion for helping her community in ways she never expected.

“I find it really interesting and I’m working towards being qualified in General Land Rescue and Road Crash Rescue.”

By committing to supporting young people within NSW SES and through our internship program, we are able to help them build the skills, confidence and leadership that will shape the future of the NSW SES and other volunteer emergency services.

We’re excited to have so many younger members like Mikayla in the NSW SES and know the future of emergency services is in capable hands 💪
