🚒 Captain’s back, brigade on parade! 🔥

With Captain Will Hodgson back from leave, the brigade came together last night for our monthly meeting, which included a full brigade parade and inspection of our wildfire PPC to ensure everything is ready for the upcoming summer fire season.

It was also a great opportunity to recognise some impressive service milestones:
👏 James Duncan – 100 calls
👏 Mark Wilson – 200 calls
👏 Captain Will Hodgson – 1,800 calls

Congratulations to all three members on these outstanding milestones and thank you for your ongoing commitment to protecting our community.

📡 Starlink comes to Warrandyte CFA

This week, Starlink has been installed on Warrandyte CFA’s Field Command Vehicle (FCV), with its first operational use during a call yesterday afternoon.

When standard networks fail, CFA phones, tablets and radios can connect via Starlink, helping crews stay connected. The FCV can also provide connectivity to other CFA vehicles in the field, keeping vital information flowing during emergencies.

As CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said:

“The after-action reviews conducted after the January 2026 fires highlighted the reliance on digital systems to support operations and operational decision-making, so this program greatly improves our capability for resilient and seamless communications when radio and telecommunications networks fail.”

This investment strengthens Warrandyte CFA’s emergency response capability and helps keep our community safer during major incidents.

Last night at around 6pm, Warrandyte CFA responded to a 2nd alarm fire call in Templestowe, supporting FRV crews.

Our team arrived to a significant fire engulfing a large two story home. With the windy conditions, defense lines were set up to protect neighboring houses. Warrandyte CFA then boosted water supplies and supported in blacking out hotspots after the ceiling had collapsed on the upper story.

The fire was and took several hours to extinguish and could be seen from several kilometers away.

We’re getting ready for summer with pre-summer training.

Our crews have been practising draughting at Stiggants Fill Point, drawing water from the Yarra River, using our pumper and tanker. This fill point funded by our amazing Community Bank Warrandyte.

We’ve also been practising our burnover entrapment drills, preparing for the moment we hope we never have.

We’re getting ready for summer - are you?

Summer is coming. Is your property fire ready?

Now is the time to clear out dry grass, leaves, branches and garden waste before the heat arrives.

Don’t wait for a Total Fire Ban or a hot day. Reduce the fuel around your home now.

A little preparation now can make a big difference when fire threatens.

28 floors. 25kg of gear. A climb with a little extra meaning this year. ❤️‍🩹

Today, Warrandyte CFA members Jeremy Williams and Caleb McMillan are taking on the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb. Pushing their way up the stairwell of Crown Metropol wearing all their firefighting gear and breathing apparatus.

For Caleb, this year’s climb is particularly personal.

After losing a close friend to su***de just days ago, Caleb is climbing today in their honour. Carrying their memory with him every step of the way.

It’s a powerful reminder of why events like the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb matter. Behind the gear, the uniforms and the tough exterior are people, families, friends and communities who are all affected by mental health and su***de.

We’re incredibly proud of them both.
One step at a time. One floor at a time. Together.

If you’d like to support Jeremy and Caleb, you can donate through their Stair Climb fundraising page.
