🔥 Key Fire Safety Essentials
Fire is dangerous, but there’s a lot you can do to protect yourself, your family and your home.
1. Install and maintain smoke alarms:
Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home. Test them regularly and replace batteries and units as needed.
2. Identify and remove fire hazards:
Check for overloaded power boards, damaged cords, unattended candles, and clutter near heat sources.
Keep flammable items away from stoves, heaters and open flames.
3. Create and practice a home fire escape plan:
Plan at least two ways out of every room.
Choose a safe meeting place outside.
Practice the plan with everyone in the household.
4. If a fire occurs: get out, stay out, and call 000:
Never go back inside for belongings, instead go to your safe meeting place.

🔥🔋🪫Another fire caused by batteries in bins.

Please dispose of batteries in authorised locations. 🙏

A single battery in a kerbside recycling bin - that’s all it took for a truck fire in Eltham North this week. The second time in just a month.

When batteries get crushed in collection trucks, they can spark and start fires fast. Drivers then have to pull over and unload burning recycling to put it out.

It’s dangerous for the driver, community and environment, but it’s completely avoidable.

🚫Batteries and electronics don’t belong in any bin, even small or rechargeable ones!

Instead:
• Drop household batteries at supermarkets or hardware stores
• Take small e-waste (up to 12cm) to Council drop-off points
• Take larger items to the Recycling Centre in Plenty

Smoke machines created a realistic environment for our Breathing Apparatus (BA) members last night as they honed their skills at Tuesday night training.

Being able to navigate a building with no visibility is a vital skill for firefighters.

🎥🚒 Can you spot North Warrandyte Tanker 1?

A few shots from our strike team deployments made it into the final cut of this CFA roundup of the 2025/26 fire season.

You might need to hit pause to spot them! 😆

Thank you to all the volunteers across the state for all their hard work this fire season. 🙏❤️
