Sheltered By Grace Transforming the lives of the homeless by building community The underlying issue we confront is trauma.

Sheltered by Grace is a shelter for single men and women over the age of 25, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to mental health issues, addictions, and domestic violence. We provide 24-hour supported accommodation, encompassing all essential services and on-site case management and a 6 month Rehab Recovery program for those in need. Our other programs include Life Skills 101, Overcoming Trauma, and Domestic Violence support for both men and women escaping violence. With 12 single rooms, 5 shared rooms and 2 self-contained cabins, we help people truly transform their lives through the creation of a strong community.

We can't predict exactly what someone's future will look like.

But we can help create more possibilities.

The possibility of learning something new.

The possibility of addressing difficult experiences.

The possibility of becoming more independent.

The possibility of reconnecting with community.

The possibility of building a future that once felt out of reach.

That's what your support helps make possible.

Feeling welcomed?

Knowing your opinion matters?

Being able to contribute?

Feeling safe enough to be yourself?

There's something powerful about knowing you can manage something yourself.

Preparing a meal.

Following a budget.

Keeping track of appointments.

Managing household responsibilities.

Communicating effectively.

Planning ahead.

Practical skills don't always receive much attention, but they're an important part of independent living.

That's why developing everyday capabilities remains an important part of the work we do.

Independence is built one skill at a time.

Community organisations need more than financial support.

They need people.

People who know how to organise.

Build.

Communicate.

Cook.

Create.

Solve problems.

Connect people.

Share professional expertise.

Today, we're grateful for everyone who has used their individual skills to support Sheltered by Grace.

Homelessness can involve more than losing a physical home.

People may also become disconnected from family, friends, employment, routines and the communities they once belonged to.

That isolation matters.

Human beings need connection.

Having people who know your name, notice when you're absent, listen to you and expect you to participate can help rebuild a sense of belonging.

A stronger response to homelessness isn't only about places.

It's also about people.

Confidence isn't always something you can simply tell someone to have.

Sometimes it needs evidence.

Completing a task.

Learning a skill.

Solving a problem.

Making a good decision.

Trying something unfamiliar and discovering you can do it.

Each experience becomes proof:

“Maybe I'm more capable than I thought.”

Creating opportunities for people to develop their own capabilities is an important part of building greater independence.

A difficult day doesn't erase a good week.

A setback doesn't erase everything someone has learned.

And needing help again doesn't mean someone has failed.

Growth rarely happens in a perfectly straight line.

What matters is learning, adjusting and continuing.

That's true for all of us — including people rebuilding their lives after homelessness, trauma or other significant challenges.

Let's celebrate progress without demanding perfection.

There's rarely a quick solution to circumstances that developed over months or years.

Rebuilding takes time.

There may be setbacks.

There may be difficult days.

There may be moments when progress feels slow.

That's why ongoing support matters.

Your donations help Sheltered by Grace continue providing programs, resources and opportunities that allow people to keep working toward their goals.
