What a day! 🚒🔥

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Westleigh RFS Open Day yesterday.

It was fantastic to see so many families, friends and members of our local community come through the station, meet our crews, check out the trucks and equipment, enjoy the live fire demonstrations and spend some time learning more about preparing for the bush fire season.

Days like this are a great reminder of just how supportive our community is, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who stopped by, had a chat, grabbed something from the BBQ and made the day such a success.

A big thank you as well to all of our Westleigh volunteers who gave their time to set up, run activities, cook, demonstrate and help make the day happen.

We hope everyone had as much fun as we did. Thanks for spending part of your Saturday with us. ❤️💛

See you again next year for a bigger and even better day! đźš’

Last night, Westleigh crews attended a small bush fire behind Normanhurst Scout Hall on Harris Road. Our crews quickly contained and extinguished the fire 🚒🔥

Whilst there were no threats given the weather conditions, it’s a timely reminder to remain vigilant. If you see an unattended fire or smoke, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Report suspicious behaviour around bushland areas to Crime Stoppers NSW on 1800 333 000.

Reminder: today is the AusAlert test - further information in this post from the National Emergency Management Agency.

On Monday 27 July 2026, we’re testing Australia’s new national warning system AusAlert.

An AusAlert test message will be sent to all compatible mobile devices across Australia at the same time. Depending on your location, you may receive the alert between 11am and 2pm local time. The test will occur during school hours in all states and territories.

AusAlert messages may appear on the phones, tablets and smart watches of children and teens. Apple iPads will not receive AusAlerts.

To prepare for AusAlert, parents, carers and guardians should help children understand:
📱 what AusAlert is.
⚠️what alerts mean.
âś… what to do if they receive an alert.

You may have already received information from your school about AusAlert testing. Follow your school’s advice about phone and device use.

Emergency alerts might be unfamiliar or unsettling for some young people. Our resources for parents, carers and students explain AusAlert and provide support information. Link in the comments. 👇

A huge thank you to C*D College Hornsby for once again delivering outstanding First Aid training to our members. It was a day of engaging, practical and real-world knowledge that our firefighters can take back into the community.

From CPR and AED use through to managing medical emergencies, these are skills that complement our firefighting role and help ensure we’re ready to assist whenever our community needs us.

We sincerely appreciate C*D College’s ongoing support of Westleigh and their commitment to helping our members maintain these lifesaving skills.

👏 Thanks for your continued partnership!

Last night, Westleigh held its Annual General Meeting, providing an opportunity to reflect on the past year, recognise member achievements, and elect the brigade leadership team for the year ahead.

Congratulations to Captain Clint, Senior Deputy Captain Fil and President Josh on their re-election, and thank you to all outgoing and incoming position holders for their commitment and service to the brigade.

The evening also provided an opportunity to recognise a number of members for their service, including the presentation of Premier’s Flood Emergency Citations and a 10-Year Long Service Medal to Carl in recognition of his decade of dedication to the RFS.

A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of Life Membership to Chris McIntosh. Chris has dedicated more than five decades to serving communities through firefighting and fire management, including more than 15 years with Westleigh Brigade. His contribution as a firefighter, officer, mentor, RFSA Delegate and all-round supporter of the brigade has left a lasting impact on our members and the community we serve. Congratulations Chris on this well-deserved recognition.

A big thank you also to Young’s Gourmet Pizzeria Normanhurst for supplying dinner after the meeting. We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of local businesses who back their community.

Congratulations to all members recognised this evening, and thank you to everyone who contributes to making Westleigh Brigade what it is 🚒 🙌🏼

Today is National Donut Day, and we’ve done the important research for you:

🍩 Donut King is offering one free hot cinnamon donut per person at participating stores, while stocks last.
🍩 Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is offering a free Original Glazed doughnut with any same-day menu purchase, plus some discounted packs online.

We trust this information will be treated with the urgency it deserves.

Happy National Donut Day, legends. Thanks for everything you do to keep our community safe 🚒🚓 NSW Police Force 🫶
