Council is very pleased to receive confirmation that a Youth Foyer is to be established in Whyalla. A collaborative partnership between Mission Australia and Cornerstone Housing Limited, will provide 20 accommodation units for young people aged 16-24 together with 24/7 onsite support from Mission Australia, whose office will be co-located alongside the foyer.

The new facility is to be centrally located adjacent the Recreation and Leisure Centre, and a short walk to the Whyalla Secondary College , the TAFE SA Whyalla Campus and the Adelaide University Whyalla Campus, as well as Westland Shopping Centre.

Whyalla City Council Mayor Phil Stone said, "This is an exciting opportunity for Whyalla and the region and represents a major investment in improving the future for local youth".

"Council are proud to have played a significant role in advocating for this facility for our community, together with Mission Australia and Cornerstone Housing, which will provide young people with a safe and secure place to call home while supporting them to access education, employment, life skills and the connections they need to build an independent life."

"It's been quite a journey to get to this point, so this is an incredibly positive announcement, and we can't wait to see the opportunities it will create for young people in Whyalla".

Rebecca Gow, Area Manager, Mission Australia said "A Youth Foyer in Whyalla represents so much more than housing. It’s about giving young people the stability, support and opportunities to build a future filled with possibility. Bringing this vision to Whyalla has taken years of collaboration, planning and advocacy, with local young people contributing directly to the design of the project. Seeing the Youth Foyer become a reality marks an exciting new chapter for young people in Whyalla”.

Mission Australia has committed to funding the operational support component of the Youth Foyer for five years, complementing the housing investment from Cornerstone, and ensuring young people can access the tailored support that sits at the heart of the Foyer model.

Housing Australia is proud to support this project through the Housing Australia Future Fund - Crisis and Transitional (HAFF-CT). Together with Mission Australia and Cornerstone Housing, Housing Australia’s investment will help expand opportunities for young people in regional South Australia and deliver lasting social and economic benefits for the Whyalla community

See further details in attached post.

A new Youth Foyer is coming to Whyalla, with Cornerstone Housing, Housing Australia and Mission Australia collaborating to deliver purpose-built, supported accommodation for young people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Two colourful Street Libraries at the Point Lowly campsite are giving visitors another reason to pause, pick up a book and enjoy our coastline. 📖 🌊

Installed by Whyalla City Council and decorated by the Whyalla Art Group, the libraries combine community book sharing with artwork celebrating our city. Mounted on the campsite’s revamped amenities block, the libraries complement improvements to the campground and provide a welcoming touch for visitors.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to browse the books, find something to read or contribute a book for someone else to enjoy on their next visit to Point Lowly.
