Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade

Winmalee Brigade would like to congratulate Blue Mountains RFS Deputy Group Captain (DGC) Peter Bennett on being announced in the Kings Birthday honours list, being awarded the Australia Fire Service Medal for distinguished service.

Pete has been a member of Katoomba-Leura brigade since 1974. Today he is a DGC in the west sector of the mountains. As a brigade we appreciate his leadership at fires, hazard reductions and training.

This award is a reflection of Pete’s ongoing contribution and dedication to the Blue Mountains brigades and is very well deserved! 🚒🚒🚒

Yesterday was a Crew Leader Wildfire and Supervision training course assessment 🔥

Our 2 candidates were put through their paces and were found competent.

Brigade members have been undertaking loads of training courses, training ready for course assessments and skills maintenance recently.

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK -
‘YOUR YEAR TO VOLUNTEER!’

Winmalee 7 and crew attended the McDougall hazard reduction at Colo in the Hawkesbury district today.
In addition to reducing fuel loads in the area, the hazard reduction provided learning opportunities for crew leading, fire ignition techniques, dry fire fighting, and use of static water supplies.

Today was a big day for brigade with Winmalee 1 bravo and crew at the Hazard Reduction. A couple of members also assisted with aviation activities at the HR - air base and incendiary operations.
Winmalee 1Alpha and 5 crew instructed and participated at the Advanced Firefighter Hydraulics course.
We also had 9 members undertake their annual Advanced Resuscitation Techniques recertification.

Today Winmalee Bravo and crew attended the Kenny Street-Kanimbla Valley Hazard Reduction at Mt Victoria.

The crew put in a big day of blacking out the burn and patrolling.

Saturday afternoon brigade training involved some area familiarisation, driving, hydraulics and a small amount of chainsaw work to remove fallen trees across the trail.

The trucks and crew went out on the Nepean River trail, which starts at Yarramundi at the bottom of the Hawkesbury Rd bends.

Great afternoon to be out in the bush!

Yesterday Winmalee 7 and crew attended the Youth Expo at Springwood Community Hub.
Crew chatted with community members about the truck, gear and how to join.

Today Winmalee 7 and crew attended the Aeroplane Hills planned hazard reduction located on the Ingar fire trial at Wentworth Falls.
