May 20th is World Bee Day!
We have been discussing how to “Bee Kind” in the kinder room and also created some bees to display on the wall. Children and educators have worked together to create bees using crafty loose parts!
We also set up a small world play space to explore bees!
Did you know:
🐝 A single worker bee will only produce about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in her entire lifetime.
🐝 Bees have 5 eyes: They possess two large compound eyes and three smaller, simple eyes on top of their heads to detect light.
🐝 Only female bees can sting, and when a honey bee uses hers, the barbed stinger becomes lodged in mammalian skin. When the bee pulls away, she leaves the stinger behind, which is ultimately fatal to the bee.
