π¨π SMOKE ALARM ACTION DAY β 1 JUNE ππ¨
β±οΈ **60 seconds today could save your life tomorrow.**
When was the last time you tested your smoke alarm?
If your answer is "ummm..." or "I can't remember", today is the day! β
Last year, nearly HALF of the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm. A simple press of the test button could make all the difference for you and your family.
Today, join Australians right across the country and take just 60 seconds to:
π Test your smoke alarms
π Check and replace batteries if needed
π
Check the manufacture date (replace smoke alarms older than 10 years)
β»οΈ Safely dispose of old or non-working smoke alarms
πͺ Make sure everyone in your household knows how to get out safely
A working smoke alarm provides the earliest warning of a fire, giving you precious time to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).
β»οΈ **Replacing an old smoke alarm? Don't just toss it in the bin!**
Old and non-working smoke alarms can be dropped off **FREE** at Household Chemical CleanOut events or Community Recycling Centres across NSW. Some local councils and libraries may also offer collection points.
The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) will ensure your old smoke alarm is disposed of safely and in an environmentally responsible way.
π Find your nearest drop-off location at: http://www.cleanout.com.au/
Need a hand? Fire and Rescue NSW offers FREE Home Fire Safety Visits to help keep your home safe. https://www.fire.nsw.gov.au/fire-safety/home-fire-safety
Remember on June 1 every year:
π₯ Test it.
π Check it.
β
Replace it if needed.
β»οΈ Recycle it.
β±οΈ **60 seconds today could save your life tomorrow.**
Because the best smoke alarm is the one that works when you need it most.

ππΎ Farmborough Heights RFB had the pleasure of hosting Cubs from Figtree, Bulli and Balgownie this evening.
The Cubs were given a tour around the station and had the chance to jump in the fire trucks, ask plenty of questions and even have a go on the hoses! It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity from the future generation.
Our members looked to be enjoying themselves just as much as the Cubs, sharing their knowledge and experiences throughout the evening.
To finish off a great night, everyone enjoyed some snags on the BBQ for a sausage sizzle, along with biscuits and cake. ππ°
A big thank you to all the Cubs, leaders and parents who attended. Also, a special thank you to our members who gave up their time to assist and make the evening such a success. ππ

Our members are dedicated, and training plays a huge part in what we do β keeping our skills current and ensuring we know exactly whatβs needed when the time comes.
With volunteers filling many different roles across the brigade, itβs important we make allowances and support one another wherever we can. One of the best parts is seeing our volunteers able to bring their children along, watching the next generation grow up around teamwork, community spirit, and important life skills.
Those young faces soaking it all in today may well become the future volunteers of tomorrow, and itβs something pretty special to witness. ππ¨βππ©βπ

Smelling smoke in the air, the RFS and partner agencies are seizing the opportunity to proactively undertake critical hazard reductions, ensuring a safer environment for all. Stay informed about hazards in your area with 'hazards near me' and set a watch zone. In case of an emergency, call 000 if you see an unattended fire.
