A huge congratulations to two of our Woronora brigade members who were recognized at today's district awards ceremony in Helensburgh!

🥇 Mark was presented with his 20-year Long Service Medal, honoring two decades of hard work and dedication to the brigade and our local community.

🎖️ Brendan received the prestigious Commissioner’s Certificate of Commendation for his decisive and courageous actions during the grain silo fire near Jerringong last year.

We are incredibly proud of both Mark and Brendan. Thank you for your continued service, leadership, and commitment to keeping our communities safe!

EXTREME FIRE DANGER & TOTAL FIRE BAN – Monday 12 October

Tomorrow, Greater Sydney (including the Sutherland Shire) is under an Extreme Fire Danger Rating, and a Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) is in place.

Warm, dry, and windy conditions mean fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and be difficult to control.

What this means for Woronora:
⁃ No solid fuel fires: No wood or charcoal BBQs (gas/electric only).
⁃ No spark-generating works: Grinding, welding, and cutting in the open are strictly prohibited.
⁃ Severe penalties apply for careless ignition.

Take action tonight:
❶ Clear small fuels like leaves and twigs from your gutters, doors, and balconies.
❷ Review your Bush Fire Survival Plan with your household.
❸ Get the app: We highly recommend all Woronora residents download the free Hazards Near Me app tonight. It is the fastest way to receive direct emergency warnings. Once downloaded, drop a pin on Woronora and set up a "Watch Zone".

If you see an unattended fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

UPDATE: BARDEN RIDGE HAZARD REDUCTION POSTPONED
Please be advised that the Barden Ridge hazard reduction burn scheduled for Tuesday 22 September has been postponed. Conditions are not currently within the required weather window for a safe, effective burn. Getting this completed remains an important priority for the RFS, and we will update our pages when a new date is confirmed.
