πŸ’ͺπŸš’ Fit for duty, prepared for anything.

You may have seen us down at Walker Park over the last couple of weeks, wondering what we were doing?

Well, our crew was tackling the Annual Fitness Drill.

From battle hoses and equipment carries to simulated patient and firefighter drags and pulls, the drill puts the best to the test. It takes endurance, strength, stamina and a mindset to get through this one!

We do this annually, to ensure our firefighters are ready for anything, any time.

Staying fit isn't just a box to tick. It's how we stay safe on the fireground and keep our community safe.

πŸš’ DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Stage 1 of the Physical Aptitude Test (PAT) includes a Simulated Reduced Visibility Search.

Wearing a frosted mask to significantly reduce visibility, candidates complete a task designed to assess their ability to function when they can’t rely on sight.

πŸ”₯ This stage helps assess:
β€’ Functional capability in reduced visibility
β€’ Ability to work in dark and confined spaces
β€’ Response to restricted vision and enclosed environments
β€’ Suitability for conditions firefighters may encounter operationally

Firefighters don’t always get clear air and perfect visibility. Smoke, darkness and confined spaces can quickly change the environment.

The PAT helps ensure candidates have the capability to operate safely when conditions get challenging.

πŸ”₯ FIRE PERMITS – DON'T FORGET! πŸ”₯

Planning to light up this season? Make sure you've got your fire permit sorted at least a few days before you burn.

βœ… Check if a Total Fire Ban or Fire Danger Period is in place for your area
βœ… Apply for your permit before lighting up
βœ… Notify neighbours of your planned burn
βœ… Never leave a fire unattended, and have suppression gear on hand
βœ… Check weather conditions on the day - wind can change everything

If your property is in the Yass township πŸ“ž Yass Fire Station: 02 6229 6711

Outside the township 🌐 NSW RFS website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
