High Fire Danger Rating | Fire Permits Suspended - Monday, 12 October 2026

With forecast dry and windy conditions tomorrow, all fire permits will be suspended for a 24 hour period from midnight tonight across the Wingecarribee Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council areas.

If you see a fire without a fire truck in attendance, report it to Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Don't be the fire risk to your community.

⏰ Your phone will change the time. Your smoke alarm still needs you!

Daylight saving starts today, Sunday, 4 October. Clocks jump forward an hour of sleep with them. 😴

Most gadgets will update automatically. Your oven will continue living in its own time zone. 😂

Take a few minutes this long weekend to check your smoke alarms:
✅ Press and hold the test button until it sounds.
✅ Replace batteries if due for their yearly change.
✅ Replace the whole alarm every 10 years, or sooner if the manufacturer specifies.

A big congratulations to Zahlie, who took out 1st place, and Rupert, who placed 3rd in our colouring-in competition. Well done to both of you on your fantastic entries! 👏

Congratulations to our 2nd place winner who did a wonderful job as well, but has chosen to remain anonymous.

Preparing for a bush fire isn’t just about your household – it’s about your community too.

Take a moment to think about the people around you who may need extra support during an emergency.

A simple conversation before the bush fire season could make a big difference when conditions change.
Consider checking in with:
• Older neighbours.
• People living with disability or health conditions.
• Families who may need help with transport before
an evacuation.

Ask about their Bush Fire Survival plan and if need be help connect them up with your local RFS brigade this Get Ready Weekend. A prepared community is a safer community. By planning ahead and looking out for one another, we can all be better prepared this
bush fire season.

HAZARD REDUCTION BURN POSTPONED

We have had to postpone the proposed Hazard Reduction on Sunday at 10-12 Appenine Road.
With the predicted weather it has been postponed until further notice.

Thank you to everyone who came along today to our Get Ready Weekend (Open Day). It was a great success, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our community and the volunteers who helped make the day happen.

A special thank you to Samuel Gee Pies and Pastries for generously donating the sausages, drinks, bacon & eggs and amazing cupcakes 🧁. Support like this goes a long way towards making days like today possible.

It was also great to see so many people stop by, have a look around, ask questions and learn a little more about preparing for the upcoming bush fire season.

Preparation starts with you. When a bush fire threatens, the decisions you make can save your life. Firefighters will do everything they can to protect communities, but they can’t be everywhere at once. There is no guarantee a fire truck will be there when you need it. That’s why it’s important to have a Bush Fire Survival Plan and know what you’ll do before a fire starts.

Before the bush fire season:
• Discuss your Bush Fire Survival Plan with everyone in your household.
• Prepare your home.
• Know the Bush Fire Alert Levels and when you need to
leave.
• Keep key information and important documents on hand.

The more prepared you are, the more options you’ll have when conditions change.
