Passiflora Ltd

Good afternoon. Passiflora Ltd continues to be in business at Andromeda Botanic Gardens. Its only employee is Anna-Lisa and we have a rather unconventional arrangement. While we struggle with the loss of income over the past 18 months, Anna-Lisa has started her on-site café. We hope people visit and help her to carve an immediate income for herself. Btw her food is delicious!

Today seven years ago, I walked into Andromeda Botanic Gardens as the new curator, under my new company Passiflora Ltd, with hope and positivity. The support from the Barbados National Trust was emphatic!

The first few months were amazing. A handful of highlights from the first few months of 2014 - we rediscovered the lost cannonball tree; discovered a bitterwood tree; were amazed at this philodendron; and refurbished a building to use as a classroom. Obviously, we did so much work and the first couple of years were challenging - mentally, physically and financially.

Anniversaries are times to reflect. Yes, I've been forced to take the Barbados National Trust to court. Yes, there is a global pandemic and our great country has community spread of Covid-19.
Yes, Andromeda, like many places, is struggling. Those previous challenges are now magnified. And, as our prime minister has directed for all, Andromeda is on pause.
So I pause. I reflect. I conclude. Would I have taken on 'project Andromeda' with the benefit of hindsight? YES!!!

If you wish to donate, DO NOT give the donation to the Barbados National Trust as it will not give the funds to us at Andromeda. The Trust kept a donation for over one year before returning it to the donor. Despite requests to do so, the Trust has not provided a valid reason for its actions, although one of its aims in its Constitution is to secure donations. First the Trust said there was not a problem; then, in the press, it said the donation did not 'comply'; and then the Trust said it was somehow connected to our legal dispute. It received the funds in June 2019 and I started legal proceedings against the Trust nearly four months later.

These are the wonderful people who actually get paid, working for Passiflora Ltd at Andromeda Botanic Gardens Barbados. From right to left - Anna-Lisa, too amazing for words is the only staff member. Troy helps out when he can but he is the main gardener - an absolute diamond who is keeping Andromeda lovely. Tyrone is our jobbing gardener, keeping the garden tidy on a daily basis. These are the people whose jobs are being protected by the generosity of donors, both local and foreign.
