Happy International Earth Day! Let's celebrate our beautiful planet and take action to protect it. Small changes add up, so let's make choices that reduce our impact on the environment. Together we can create a sustainable future for generations to come.

Approximately 100 workers have been employed to remove the large amounts sargassum seaweed on local shores.
Minister of Environment and
National Beautification and the Blue and Green Economy, Adrian Forde said they had designated a team of workers at various beaches across the island to clear the seaweed.
"Every single year it comes in, the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification has employed about 100 workers who worked assiduously, five days out of the week, to ensure that the seaweed is manually raked from the beach so that you wouldn't have the excessive sand being taken up like using mechanical devices. It is then trucked off after it has been bagged or put in pan carts so it can be taken to a prescribed location for composition,".
Forde said the ministry's plan to remove the seaweed would remain the same moving forward as it continues to cover the shores. Story credit from the Weekend Nation.

Long Pond, St. Andrew
A wetland is an area flooded or saturated with water, impacting the habitat and the plant and animal communities found there. These ecosystems appear where the water table is at or near to the surface. Wetlands can be both natural or man-made, permanent or seasonal, with fresh, brackish, or salt water. They can be found on the coastline, as salt marshes, mangroves, estuaries and lagoons, and further inland, as lakes, rivers, floodplains, and swamps. Learn more from the link in our bio.
