A FLASH-FLOOD WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR BARBADOS
Issued: Sat, 20 Jun 2026 04:32 PM
Excessive rainfall today 20th June 2026 could generate flooding across low-lying areas in Barbados. These conditions are predicted to persist this afternoon and tonight, with some improvement tomorrow, Sunday 21st June 2026. Therefore, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a Flash Flood Watch.
**** Hazard Info ****
Possible Impacts
There is the possibility of significant flooding, which may result in soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields may lead to commuting delays and possible isolated diversions in and out of the city. Increases in water levels of
existing water bodies (e.g ponds etc.). Marginally invasive excess water on roads, fields, storm drains/water canals and on property.
Residents and visitors should also be aware that this watch could elevate to a warning.
What you should do
The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
Discussion
A tropical wave enhanced by a favourable upper-level pattern is generating cloudy to overcast skies, and light to heavy showers and periods of rain. Parts of the island have already recorded up to an inch of rainfall in the last 12 to 24 hours. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible this evening and into tonight.
General Information
A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in
flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible. This Flash Flood Watch was issued at
4.30 pm on 20th June 2026 and will be terminated at 6 am tomorrow, Sunday, 21st June 2026 or sooner if conditions warrant.
