We’re taking the conversation about Barbados’ ocean future on the road, and into communities across the island!
Yesterday, the Barbados Marine Spatial Plan officially launched its branded bus, adding another touchpoint to a communications campaign that continues to find new ways to connect marine spatial planning with everyday Barbadians.
The goal remains the same: ensuring that Barbadians can understand, engage with, and help shape the future of our marine space.
Held at the Main Guard in the Garrison Historic Area, with remarks from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment, National Beautification and Fisheries and Minister of Finance .straughn along with Director of Dr Leo Brewster, in the presence of officials from , our ambassador ,stakeholders, and the media, we officially launched our mobile awareness and educational campaign.
Special thanks to the Inter-American Development Bank ( ) for sponsoring the bus wrap and to the for helping to make this important launch possible.
As this bus continues its journey across Barbados, we hope it serves not only as a powerful visual reminder of the Barbados Marine Spatial Plan, but also as an invitation.
An invitation for Barbadians to stay curious, stay engaged, and get in on de plan!

Students are stepping outside of the classroom with the Barbados Marine Spatial Plan to explore our gullies and learn how the island's natural formations connect directly to the ocean.
Our marine education and ocean literacy programme is built on the understanding that the environment (land and sea) will truly make sense when you can see it for yourself, not just read about it. This programme is extremely important to this MSP process because if we want to develop strong ocean stewardship for long-term sustainability, our people must understand what we are trying to manage and protect.
For these students from the Lester Vaughan School, the best lesson was right outside!

Our sponsored roundabout got a few more decorations! These signs are reminders that every Bajan has a voice when it comes to our ocean 💙
So while you’re passing through, just remember:
🛑 Don’t go in circles with ocean protection
🧭 It’s your turn to help chart the course
These signs are part of our Destination: Sustainable Seas campaign, which will be popping up in everyday spaces to spark conversation, curiosity, and connection to our marine environment.
Marine spatial planning isn’t just policy… it’s about people. And that includes you. 🇧🇧✨
