Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute has been published a new research article based on
"Seasonal and Interannual Variability of Mixed-Layer Depth and Surface Chlorophyll-a in the Bay of Bengal: Insights into Physical-Biological Coupling" in the Ocean Science Journal, Springer Nature.
This study provides a comprehensive, decade-long analysis (2014-2023) of key upper-ocean parameters in the Bay of Bengal, including mixed-layer depth (MLD), surface chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), seawater density, salinity, ocean current, precipitation and wind speed. We utilized high-resolution satellite-derived datasets and advanced statistical methods like Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis and Lagged Empirical Time (LET) correlation to investigate the links between physical forcing and surface productivity. The findings offer new insights into the mechanisms controlling upper-ocean structure and productivity in this climatically sensitive region.
