Suvra Mukherjee Foundation aims to carry forward the dream of Former Indian First Lady, Late Smt. Back on 17 September 1940, when Mr. Her cousin's son-in-law Mr.
Suvra Mukherjee for strengthening up the socio-economic status of under-developed & developing communities in Bangladesh, India, and other countries. Amarendra Ghosh and his wife Smt. Suvra Mukherjee (Ghosh) shifted to Calcutta in 1955 and completed her higher education under the guidance of Shri Pranab Mukherjee and got married to him on 13 July 1957. She obtained two master's degrees, one in History and the second one in Political Science. In the '70s after completing the master's, she started teaching English Grammar and History in Midnapore West. She was a proficient singer and used to sing Rabindra Sangeet. Moreover, in her early career, she appeared in so many dance-dramas in various countries such as Europe, India, Africa, and Asia. She is the founder of the Geetanjali Troupe had a mission to propagate the philosophy of "Rabindranath Tagore" by the way through their songs and dance performances. Most of the time group rehearsals were done at her Talkatora Road home. She is the author of two books named Chena Achenai Chin for recounting the memories of her visit to China and Chokher Aloey to describe her relationship with former PM of India Indira Gandhi. She will always be remembered for her outstanding contribution in the field of culture, art, and music. Along with being inclined towards music, she was also a talented painter who had many successful groups and solo painting exhibitions to her credits. Even after being the First Lady of India from 2012 to 2015, she was an apolitical woman who liked to stay away from politics. During her last foreign trip in 2013 to her birthplace in Bangladesh, she met with her family members and extended her hands to improve the socio-economic conditions of Narail and other districts of Bangladesh. Ayan Ranjan Das started working to carry forward the dream of Suvra Mukherjee to join the helping hands. Suvra Mukherjee took her last breath on 18th August 2015 at Army Research & Referral Hospital in New Delhi as the First Lady of India. Mr. Ayan Ranjan Das with his well-wishers has founded the "Suvra Mukherjee Foundation" to give the shape of untouched dream of Suvra Mukherjee for the under-developed and developing communities of Bangladesh, India, and other countries. During the death anniversary program organized by the Foundation in 2016, Former High Commissioner of India H.E. Harsh Vardhan Shringla quoted "Suvra Mukherjee was a genuine friend of the people of Bangladesh and her contributions to promoting people-to-people contacts between India & Bangladesh were unparalleled". "Bangladesh had always been in her thoughts. She reciprocated the love and affection she got from the people of Bangladesh". "Suvra Mukherjee is not among us today, but her works will stay with us forever and continue to inspire us to strengthen friendly ties between both the countries".
