Sensing Method – Argus smoke detectors usually use optical (photoelectric) technology, and sometimes ionization technology. In optical sensors, an LED and a light sensor are used; when smoke enters, light is scattered and hits the sensor, triggering the alarm.

Continuous Monitoring – Continuously monitors the surrounding air for smoke particles.

Signal Transmission – When smoke is detected, it sends a signal to the control panel (in an addressable or conventional system).

Alarm Activation – The control panel then activates sounders or the fire alarm system to alert occupants.

Maintenance Feature – Some Argus detectors have contamination level monitoring to reduce false alarms caused by dust or dirt.

A beam detector is a type of smoke detection system that uses a projected light beam, usually infrared, to detect smoke over a large area. It consists of a transmitter (which sends the light beam) and a receiver (which detects the light beam on the other side of the area).

Under normal conditions, the receiver continuously receives the light beam without interruption. When smoke from a fire enters the path of the beam, it blocks or scatters the light, causing the amount of light reaching the receiver to decrease. If this reduction reaches a certain preset level, the system recognizes it as smoke and triggers the fire alarm.

Beam detectors are highly effective for large open spaces such as warehouses, factories, shopping malls, or high-ceilinged areas where using multiple point-type smoke detectors would be costly and difficult to maintain. They can cover distances up to 100 meters, providing wide-area smoke detection with fewer devices.

In summary, a beam detector works by monitoring the clarity of the air between the transmitter and receiver, and when smoke interrupts the beam, it activates the fire alarm to warn occupants of a fire.
